i have recently purchased a honda hornet frame, a friend said they are pretty much the same as a cbr 600 so i was wondering if most of the obvious parts would fit straight onto it eg: engine, forks, swing arm etc...... please help if anyone can shed a light on this query....

thanks Thumbs Up

Hornet frames are 100% diffrent to cbr frames.

The only thing that will slide on is the 97 IICR cbr engine, and the cbr forks of the right bore....

Swinger is diffrent aswell.
Im selling LOTS of hornet parts atm, Engines swingers wheels forks.

If you need anything give me a pm and ill give you a good price.......

No they are not, not at all, they share an engine and a few bits here and there, that is all.

Hornet frame is a steel beam running along the top with a built in steel subframe and a steel swingarm, this has the older CBR engine - a few CBR models ran alongside the hornet in it's lifetime and a few things varied but the last one was had an aluminium frame, with aluminium subframe and aluminium swingarm - different engine is also a stressed member. The engine from the older CBR will fit in, it has a different cam profile to alter the state of tune and IIRC uses larger carbs and a different airbox design but it is not a worthwhile investment if you already have a good hornet engine.

In other words, your mate is about as wrong as he could get.

Why did you just buy a frame?

Because it's cheaper to buy each part, and build a complete bike instead of buying one outright

Are you sure about that?

...I think you will find Mk1GSF is taking the piss!

For a car it costs around 10 times more to build it from retail spares than buy it off the forecourt. Even from ebay I would think the cheapest way is to combine two or more wrecks.
