Firstly, thanks for everyone's advice over the last week regarding my neighbour knocking my bike over, then denying it. Really helpful!

Quick update: I decided to get the bike repaired myself at my local dealer. The damage came to about £160 for the throttle and a few minor scrapes (not including a small dent to the tank which is hardly noticeable and would've cost £300 to fix). I should have it back by the end of the week, which I'm over the moon about!

My insurance company have asked for a copy of the repair estimate in order that their legal people can claim on my behalf. Today, I received some paperwork from a solicitors firm working on behalf of my insurance company. Have some paperwork to fill in regarding the claim against my neighbour. Hope I don't end up with a huge legal bill over repairs costing under £200. Want her to pay up and this might be the only way, just don't want it to get blown out of proportion.

Shoulda fixed it yourself for much less than that and not bothered with the claim on your record and premiums rape.

But bitches shouldn't get away with things

Ummm... what's your contract with these solicitors?

I honestly don't understand why you're going legal over a few £££ of minor damage. There are more direct ways to ensure that Katey Krashalot ends up "paying" for it.

To be honest, I didn't know how this would go. Thought the insurers would claim on my behalf. I didn't know I would be dealing directly with the solicitors. Not worth the hassle. It's been a learning experience and something I'll hopefully deal with better in future. I should have expected it, but these insurers seem like bullshitters.

He may be able to get around this by calling insurance companies and telling them the specifics of the claim (ie a one-off bit of misfortune), then telling them the woman no longer lives there/it happened at a previous address or something. They may be reasonable with the premium once they have heard that.

I'm assuming he is covered by legal protection and thats what the insurance are using to claim? I'm not sure if that will affect his no claims or not. If not then may as well claim for the dent in the tank and wasted time etc...

Why would they? Unless you're making a fully comp claim against them, they have absolutely no interest in the matter.

It's entirely up to you, but nobody that you've spoken to is doing you a favour, or giving you a freebie. Someone is going to be paying for their time - are you sure it's not you?

Shame you can't do something like small claims and avoid insurance altogether.
But too late now and probably not clear cut enough for them, good luck
