Looking at getting a new lid soon, and like the idea of getting a matte black one. Are they really that bad to look after?

No, because they look good when battered.

I have a Shoei XR-1100 Matte Black. I bought mine because I like the sort of 'weathered' look and I find most fingerprints and watermarks disappear almost instantly. I just tried to clean mine (for the first time in 3 months?), warm wet rag on it then wiped it away with a towel.. seemed to come up like new, but maybe thats just a Shoei finish? Some forums say to stay away from waxes as they can affect the finish.

Haven't regretted the matte choice once since getting it Smile

Oh and for a bit of fun, go around a motorcycle shop touching all the matte ones, really gets on their nerves Twisted Evil

Doesn't sound bad then, was told when asking about them that all fingerprints will show up and you have to remove all bug splatter instantly or it will stain it.

Helmet in question is a HJC R-PHA 10 by the way

I've a matt black Duchini one. Love it. Collects bugs something terrible. They tend to stick more than bounce off the shine. Laughing
