ok on the run to work this morning I noticed the right indicator was flashing quite fast and thought ' bulb blown' but as I slowed down to turn the flashing got slower too.
No bulbs gone and I checked it in neutral earlier they flash quite slow at low rpms and if I rev it to say 8k they flash very quickly.
Is this something to worry about on a 91 GPZ500s or is it the exploding altenators story making me paranoid Shocked
I have a volt meter so i guess I shouldn't be so lazy really Laughing

Could be the indicator relay playing up under normal voltage fluctuations at different revs or a problem with the reg/rec putting out too high a voltage. Check the reg/rec with a multimeter across the battery with the engine running, rev it up to 5,000rpm or so. If you've got a manual it will tell you what the max voltage should be if you haven't should peak at around 14 something DC volts, over 15 or so and it's overcharging and that's your problem.

The only time I had this was when I bought a cheap pattern flasher relay. Once I noticed it, it started to annoy me (lots of motorway mileage so high revs) so I stumped up for a genuine relay and the problem went away.

Check your charging voltage, the rectifier could be on it's way out (or already left the building).

ok checked the charging and I'm pleased to say that it's around 13v at idle and 13.8 and 7K rpm so nothing wrong there, maybe just a crap ind relay then? Thumbs Up
