Hi,

So me and a freind decided to take one of these Get On free ride things as he wasn't sure if he would like riding and as I was intending to do my CBT and then get a full licence (i'm 21 so DAS I think?) I said I would go with him.

Well now he's dropped out and i'm still going with it as i've booked it so might as well but I was just wondering if anybody had done them and what their thoughts were on them.

Also what do they entail, I know there all done off the roads but how much can you get done in the one hour you have?

I apologise if this has been asked before but I did have a look before posting.

Thanks,

B088Y

I've never done one but a few people on here have so I'm sure they will give you more info.

Basically its an introduction to riding and since its free you might as well find out how to ride a bike. You'll be taught the basics of how to ride and then spend half an hour or so riding around a car park learning slow control, which is one of the most important things to learn when it comes to riding a bike for a CBT.

You'll enjoy it. If you want to do more than book the CBT. That'll give you a full day to figure out if biking is for you or not as you'll spend half of the morning learning how to ride the bike off the public roads and then at least 2 hours on the roads.

Definitely worth it, it's why I got to where I am now, with my mod 1 next thursday. :o
I'm sure you know what happens and what you do, but they'll show you all the controls of the bike, then you move on to a small ride around the car park. Where I went the instructor said they don't usually get passed second gear, but because I was alone he said to go for it.

Well worth it and very fun even if you don't carry on, booked my CBT when I was there too.

Office girly did one, said it was a good opportunity to see if she actually enjoyed having a throbbing monster surging between her legs.

It wasn't a learning experience as such, it was just "sit on the bike, get it moving, if you don't fall off or wet yourself, then book a CBT".

Given the amount of waffle at the start of my CBT before we even got a sniff of the bikes, I think it's well worth having a go.

When i did it i was doing figure of 8's and u turns at the end, only got into second gear but tbh the slow stuff is the hardest.
Worth doing to see if biking is what you imagined in your head, if it isnt (in a bad way) then no point carrying on with it. CBT is a lot more fun though

Thanks for this B088Y. I wasn't even aware this scheme existed.

Just so happens the riding school I was looking at booking my DAS with it is part of the scheme. So i'll get to have a good look at the school, the instructors and equipment plus get some good advice to boot.

Thumbs Up

Exactly this. I did one a couple of months ago (mostly for a laugh) with three friends. Two of us did our CBT at the weekend and I now have a bike! Good route in, and it's free... what's not to like?!

It sounds like a good idea.

Did a similar thing before my CBT/DAS.

An hour with one of the instructors riding at walking pace round the training area..... while everyone having their lunchbreak from lessons watched.

Well worth it though.

This looks cool, also never heard of it and it sounds really useful as i've never even sat on a bike and was just gonna dive straight in for the CBT.

Have booked a session, thanks for the post!

I Think it all depends on what riding school you go to, the one i went to for the free hour lesson on a 600 was meant to be ok,having sat on the bike and went round in circles for 5 mins or so and then told to leave the front brake alone the guy gave me another ten minutes and said thats it you need a full days training, so i was lucky to get 20 mins and after that i just decided to do my tests (passed mod 1 still waiting on mod 2)on my 125 as i thought the guy was a bit of a nob and at £150 for a days training i thought it a bit expensive, im not sure if you can try and go to a few riding schools and get a free 1 hour trial but it might be an idea to try it,,good luck.
