Failed mod 2...

Hi guys, well i sat my mod 2 this week and failed Messed up at the last roundabout before the test centre (about a minute away). I put my right leg down so i could check my gears; make sure i was in first and ready to go when traffic cleared...and my right leg buckled; must have planted my foot funny as my knee just gave. My bike tipped; i caught it but the examiner said i wasn't in control....gutted!

Anyway, i've been reading the forums a lot these past few weeks (so much helpful advice, so thaks guys) and i was pretty nervous after reading posts about the examiners being picky or unfair and just plain looking to fail us. So i wanted to say i found the examiner really fair, definitely didnt look like he wanted to fail me to meet some quota or something - actually seemed sorry about the whole thing. So there's good ones out there!

It's unlikely that any examiner wants to fail someone. A lot of the time when people comment on here it's their perception, and to them it could seem like victimisation, but they're not seeing what the examiner sees. These guys deal with riders day in and day out, trust their judgement, get better, re-try and pass.

As for yourself, tough luck. It's always worse when it's something unusual that causes you to fail. Still, you know you're on track to pass so next time you should nail it. Did he give you any other feedback on how the ride went?

Oh no, but you know you can do it so, keep going. i failed my Mod 1 three times but passed Mod 2 first time (just last week). I did have one horrible examiner during my Mod 1 who told me I'd locked the back wheel on the emergency stop - i ddisputed this and so did everyone watching but hey ho it was all good practice looking back at it. Thanks guys, and congratulations Trikeschick; you must be over the moon! Have you got a bike sorted yet?

He said the ride was fine until then; couple minors for awareness and gear change but nothing major. I would've said my stopping wasn't the best - I changed from CAT boots to Sidi ones the day before the test and I'm really stuggling to press the back break enough to come to a complete stop. I started to use the front break more to compensate but the instructor said it wasn't a good idea as it can affect your balance more. I just can't move my ankle very well but i guess that's where the protection comes from. I dont have my re-sit for a few weeks, and its just the test (no lessons beforehand), so do you think they will soften enough with me wearing them around the house?

Just wearing them should help, definitely. I take it you're not riding your own bike for the mods? Why so long to wait for your re-sit?

Ah new boots - this can be enough to throw you at the best of times. The day before my test I went out for a lesson with someone else who was sitting their mod 2. He literally had just bought his boots and spent the two hours of the lesson getting a feel for how different stuff felt. He failed his mod 2 the next again day for stalling the bike on the hill start.

I am wearing my well worn in but trusty doc martens. Not the best bike boots but not the worse. I bought a Hornet Jenny and get it in a couple of days. My OH wants me to get new boots and I will but just as soon as I have got to grips with the new bike.

Best bet would be to walk the boots in but maybe get out for a couple of hours on the bike if you can.

Yeah, i'm using the schools bike. I don't have my own yet, but i'm hoping to view a CBR600F next week. My instructor has no slots available. The guys at the school are really great (taken me from terrible on my CBT to Mod 2 ready in 3 days on the 500) so they are really busy, and the few mod 2 slots they have are taken already. I'm hoping for a cancellation though as i really don't want to wait so long; I want to get in some good miles before winter rolls around. Do you guys ride much during winter?

Yep, thats sounds like my first day with the boots too! And with not having a 125 I wont be spending any time on a bike until the day of the test....so i'm wondering if i should go back to the trusty cat boots just for test....decisions!

Trusty boots! I like to think of my boots as my lucky boots. They are purple and bear many scuffs and scars as i have been riding trikes for years as I couldn't get my act together to do my bike test!

And yes very excited, the bike is ready but there were no crash bobbins on it and I felt it was better to wait, they should be in Tomorrow or Tuesday. Plus it has been raining all weekend here so not all bad lol
