I'm 16 next week and I'm really looking forward to my first bike Smile

I would just like a little advice on what I should go for, because im only 16 this does limit me to a 50cc but isn't 50cc better than a 0cc? LOL

I do plan on doing my full bike thing within time but going from a push bike to my first motor vehicle is quite exciting and I plan on enjoying it as much as possible. Smile

I've got around £750 to spend but that also includes my CBT, helmet and clothing gear.

Any advice would be really great!

£750 will cover CBT, protective gear, security and insurance. So you're going to have to steal the bike, but in all honestly, nicking a 50cc is doing the owner a favour.

And I will only be using the ped now and then to get out of walking or getting the bus.

Quite hard looking for a decent one, just had a flick through eBay, Gumtree and Auto trader and not really any decent ones on there.

I live in Chelmsford, Essex and can travel around 75 miles to collect if anyone could help me :o

If you buy a ped for £295 you should really take someone who knows a few things about bikes and mechanical stuff to look it over for you.

Check those chassis and engine numbers against the V5,probably get an HPI check too.....if it's nicked or money is owed on hire purchase you'll have the bike siezed.

Nice to see it has - miles on the clock lol.

Ditto, and I'm a boring twat in my 40s.

Your CBT might cost anywhere from £100-130. You can get away with a cheap lid at about £40-50, tho the well paid whingers and brand tarts on here will scream big time. Fuck em Smile Just make sure the lid fits well and shows the EC2205 mark.

A good cheap jacket is about £50-55 (Spada 940 does the job great). Gloves maybe £20 at least at Aldi/Lidl or even ebay, they're cheap and better than nowt, and will do until you've got the money for fancy gear.

Pants? jeans will have to do for now, just don't wear trackie bottoms. Boots? Army boots, safety boots, rigger boots, Docs, I've worn a variety of the above. As long as they're not trainers or the like and protect your ankles they'll do for now.

^^^ This ^^^

Take someone alot older with you who knows about bikes to check any bike over. Don't believe any seller BS about how fast it goes etc. If it looks even the slightest suspicious, nicked/ringed, the seller looks dodgy, pikey or the bike underneath the plastic crap looks remotely like an uncared for nail, then walk away. Another bike for sale will be along in 5 minutes.

As a fellow forthysomething boring twat I ditto all the above. Gear doesn't have to be expensive.

Unfortunately cheap 'peds tend to have been thrashed/crashed to death by dozens of 16y/olds who haven't got a clue how to ride, its really important to take someone who knows what they're looking at.

Don't touch anything thats being "sold on behalf of my mate", "V5 missing", etc. If it's nicked and your caught with it you'll lose the bike, get no money back, and if plod suspects you knew it was nicked when you bought it you could end up facing charges yourself.

Before I got my 125 scooter I looked at literally dozens of Gumtree ads that were blindingly obviously stolen bikes.

An offer to exchange cash for a bike you want at a car-park or suchlike should be responded to with a polite but firm "fuck off"

As far as I can see that's a bloody tight budget matey.

CBT: £130-£160 depending on the school, you will have to use their bike, obviously.

Gear: £50-£100 for a helmet. £35 for gloves. £50-£100 for a decent jacket. £50-£100 for decent boots. This is just the "must haves".

Licence application: £55 (For your provisional, if you do not have it already).

That's around £400 before you've even got the bike my friend. I know your step-father said he'd pay for your first year of insurance which is bloody good because that will be around £250 depending on your postcode and what motorcycle you buy etc.

If I were you, I would save up until you have about £2000 (easily done in a year), then when you are 17 either get a nice 125cc and all the above or use the above to pass your test (the better way) and get a nice £1000 500cc/600cc (restricted) motorcycle and that way you're more open to the motorcycling world!

I wish you the best of luck! Thumbs Up!
