Hey folks, I have a bit of an issue with the gixer at present.

I went for a ride yesterday and did around 20 miles or so before the engine choked once, the digital dash froze and the engine cut out. I was with Fizzer Thou at the time so I pushed the bike off the road and we set about checking connections and whatnot, got it bump started twice and swapped bikes. By the time I caught up with him half a mile up the road it had cut out again. We ended up pushing mine to the next village and trailering it home as there seemed little point in repeatedly bump starting. The dash came up with the FI error code.

Today we set about stripping the bike down to diagnose the issue properly

And checked the battery first to make sure that it could keep its charge. It had been on an Optimate all night and initially all seemed OK, dash came on and the engine started but the battery discharged very quickly from 11 volts down to six in under five minutes at which point the bike cut out again. After a few hours of dismantling parts and checking connections again we tested the reg/rec and got some weird readings on a multimeter. We pulled the reg/rec off the bike thinking that there was a fault in it somewhere and this is what it looked like on the back.

One crack with some melted plastic on the left and a long raised line of bubbled up stuff on the right. Im not sure if this is the original one but is this a good sign that there is a fault in it somewhere?

I know the K7/K8's had a reg/rec recall done on, it wouldn't have stretched back to the K6's by any chance? The bike has done 11,000 miles so far. I have ordered a new one but could anyone offer up any other problems that could cause the battery to rapidly discharge, fail to recharge and make the bike cut out?

Thanks in advance Thumbs Up

No recall AFAIK my mate who is a mechanic says about 3 gixers a week come in a week you can get a pattern one but they go even quicker.

IIRC, I've heard of a few people with problems on the K6. I think off the top of my head that they are around £100 from Suzuki.

If you want to avoid failure again you can try and position it better so it gets more cooling.

Cheers guys, new one is all ordered and now im just waiting for it to arrive. While all the plastics are off and its up on a ramp there are some things that need tinkering with. Scooping out a ton of chain lube that was helpfully put on there for one....
