Parking Fine - What do I do now ????

I got a parking fine a couple of months ago but decided to fight it and contest paying as I have 5 reasons to suggest that I was parked legitimatly.

I have refused to pay and have sent a couple of letters and a number of email pleading my case.

In the Council last letter to me they told me that they will now send me a "Notice to Owner" and when I pay the fine it will now be priced at the higher rate since it has been so long since the offence.

However my vehicle is registered at my parent house and I moved out a number of months ago.

What would happen if, my parents sent the letter back and to them with a letter saying that I do not stay there anymore? And that she doesn't know where I stay, etc?

I would imagine that they are going to keep persuing this until they get my hard earned cash off me, but how else would they find out where I lived to chase me up, etc....

P.S. - What exactly is a 'Notice to Owner' ? Anything to worry about?

I'm sure if they really really wanted to, they could go to DVLA and get details..

But, im sure if you get your parents to say, no longer lives here, left country etc.. they will more than likely give up

Usually if you are sent a ticket for any reason they are pretty much covered from all angles.

They've heard all the excuses and closing the loopholes

Pay it and be done with it!

Technically, although the v5c (logbook) does not prove ownership of a vehicle, it does have to be kept up-to-date by the person who's name is on it.

Technically, if your parents send out a 'no longer at this address' letter to the parking company, and they inform the DVLA, the DVLA can then fine you for not informing them of a change of address.

I think that holds a max fine of £2000.

Notice of owner goes by DVLA records.

As for selling it... won't work unless you can get the new owner to backdate the signature on the v5c.
Even then the parking company will ask for 'proof' from the DVLA, which comes in the form of a letter confirming that you are no longer the registered keeper, BUT this is dated when it went through the system, not when the old v5c was signed... meaning the parking company will class the vehicle as being yours up until the date on this letter.

Lol... think they've probs heard that a few times...

I've had a few PCN's for parking and entering the congestion charging area over the years.

Had hell fighting the ones that weren't my fault, let alone the ones that were. For future reference, pay up right away at the reduced rate!

Also had an issue with the DVLA when they lost a logbook, and then tried to fine me for failing to tax or declare SORN...

If there was not a sign saying you can park there, then you might have an issue.

Due to UK laws you could possible win, but that would involve a court process... A lot of money if you loose...

fairly sure the duration on which they base their "Reduced rate" on MUST stop on the date you appeal, and continues on their decision.

I appealed a parking ticket, had a few photos, was nice and the fine was thrown out. I did have more to back me up if I needed it and would have won on that score too.

Don't pay it. Ignore the threatening letters. They almost certainly won't take you to court (they don't want to spend time and effort taking the 5% who refuse to pay to court, when they can milk 95% for cash without making any effort). In the extremely unlikely event that they do take you to court, you can argue the case.

I had to challenge a PCN I got for parking my bike in the alcove of my building.

I had parked their consistently for ages and had been told that it was fine by the guys with green caps.

Went down once to see a PCN. Appealed against it saying it was private property that I was parked on, but they replied saying if it was accesible to the public without a barrier then it was part of the footpath.

Ok then...

Got two (top secret) videos of 2 separate parking attendents saying it was fine to park in the spot in questions.

Mentioned this once they sent my notice to owner.

Weeks later I got a letter saying that because of an "administrative error" my case had been left too long by them and they were 'letting me off the hook' basically!

The cheek of it, they idn't even admit their wrong!

Basically if you have a good case then go for it, if not then dont waste time and just pay up boy!
