This company has developed this crash helmet and plans to launch it soon.

This is what I got back from them in an E-Mail.

The production shall be at the beginning of 2004. The reason why we launched the Helmet at Milan in Sep was to ascertain the reaction from distributors that represent the motorsports market. The technology and the helmets astounded everyone as well as the motorsports enthusiasts, as you can imagine. The helmet will be available for all markets and will come with all of the relevant standards in sizes range from XS to XXL. It is manufactured to the best available technology with anti scratch, anti bacteria removable interior and real ventilation system made in Italy. 10 years of research and development have gone into this product to give the consumer the best available product at this time. The helmet will be available in Black and Black Matt And Silver and Silver Matt. The price will be circa 350 to 400 euro depending on Local taxes. And transport. That is approx £258. In dollars we hope it will be no more than 400 but will not know this retail price until they land in the USA or Country of distribution. We suggest you speak to your retailer who will put pressure on the distributor to deliver the helmet. Keep checking our web site for updates of distribution after Feb 2004. Hopefully the product Images will be available in the next couple of Months to be viewed on the web at www.reevu.com and also coming to a place near you in 2004.

I'm looking forward to seeing one of these and trying it on to see how well it works.

I can see the point for a pushbike a lot more than I can see the point for a motorbike really.

After all, on a pushbike you don't have any mirrors and you're likely to have things coming up behind you that you need to know about (like me, wanting you to get out of my way).

But on a bike, in the general flow of traffic, what's directly behind you is of little concern. Mind you, I guess it depends on the quality of your bike mirrors - the ones on the CBR are pretty good and you can see behind you. The ones on that aftermarket fairing I had on the CB were appalling and I was constantly convinced there was a cop car sitting right behind me in the massive blind spot.

Be worth a look though. Interested to see how it copes with all the different angles that people hold their heads at.

Yeah I've heard about these etc, and wondered what the expected price was to be.

I'm actually really interested (especially since the rear view is that bad on the zx10 Laughing

).

They do look very useful, probably end up saving lives. I'm intrigued to try one out. One day the technology will be leaked and every helmet will have one............ Laughing

Wouldn't having a pillion on the back effect the view? Especially since a pillion tends to sit a little higher than the driver.

Alternatively I think Zimma would love to see the reaction of his pillions when he's driving like a madman or does a wheelie. It'd probably make him do it even more.

I can see it being useful on the track. A couple of seconds turning your head at 130+mph can mean a lot of things going wrong, even if it's just a late gear change, that's can be a relatively significant amount of time lost.

Also, considering the little 'incident' I had with the back of that car earlier in the year, I can see plenty of potential for using them on the road as well, especially when riding in heavy traffic etc.
