Hey folks,

Just been down to castle coombe to get my bike sound tested. It came in at 124DB when most track limits are 105DB

Has anyone got any ideas on what exhaust to get that will be under 105DB?

Currently using a RACE-FIT but even with the baffle fitted its 120db

Thanks!

James

120 will see you fail at pretty much any noise restircted day. I know castle coombe have turned away totaly sotkc bikes for failing the noise test.

For a track day at CC i would put the stock exhaust on IMO.

Castle Coombe measure the sound very differently than most tracks. What RPM's did they get you to rev to and how far away was the Db meter?

Other tracks use the ACU method, which is 7.5k rpm (for a 600cc machine) with the Db meter 2 foot away at a 45 degree angle. Most race cans without baffles will pass. Some tracks have a driveby test, so you can always rev lower past those points.

Some tracks like Mallory Park dont even have a noise restriction, the TDO will say its 105Db, but there is none.

If its a carb'd R6, and hasnt been setup for the new can, I expect it'll run just as well with a standard can.

It was measured at 12'000rpm at around 2ft from the exhaust at about 20 degrees.

Unfortunatly my bike has been set up to the race can Sad

will it make a big difference in power? will it do it any harm?

Thanks

is it carbed or FI?

some bikes get effected more than others - was it a can or a full system?

Bunging the stock can back on for the day won't hurt it. You may find it's slightly flatter than usual if it's been jetted to suit.

Can't say I believe you'll be noticably slower. At most you'll lose 2-3bhp.

just bung the standard can on. Youl likely notice a power loss or fairly big flatspot if its jetted for the reacefit -but other than that not really an issue - depending where the flatspot is (if there is one) you can usually clutch it when its about to bog to get past it.
