People around here generally consider it rude to come on and give the impression you are trying to 'steal' users.

Add to that we have had a lot of people come on and advertise their brand new phpbb forum with hardly any members on and little reason to post. None of these seem to offer anything this forum doesn't and often there seems to be no reason for creating them, apart from the admin wanting some imagined 'respect'.

I am suitably impressed that you are able to use punctuation, as opposed to many that come on here to advertise their sites, so you've got an explanation why people don't like your post Smile... that and the fact you did admit it was 'advertising'.

Some thoughts:
If you want more visitors: What does your site offer that others don't? This site started as a forum on nsr125.com, which offered advice on the NSR that you couldn't get elsewhere, only when it became popular did it get made bigger and better.
Most, not all such popular 'forum' sites have actually sprung up from a related website or sites based on a common theme etc already, even a 'guestbook' on a site that has then grown when the site actually has lots of visitors.
Also, if you want more posts: start small, having a hundred different categories will mean you have 95 categories with no posts in, people will be loath to post in these categories because there isn't any current discussion so it looks unlikely they'll get an answer or response.
Also: how would you like it if I came onto your site if/when you get a few visitors and told them about another site that actually has posts and is a decent technical resource? How would you feel if a load of your users decided they didn't like your site as much as the one I was 'advertising'?

As G said, it's giving the impression you want people from here to go there and use that forum instead of this one. I don't know if you've noticed but there is an Outing and Excursions forum here which hasn't had much going on in the South West area, so I'm not so sure if there are many potential users to steal. Laughing

Try and take a different line on your website, and give us a reason to want to go there. If I want to just talk general stuff I see no reason for me to go there as I'm quite happy here. Smile

Having said that, www.hull-bikers.co.uk started off as a similar site and has actually got users on it now, so you never know.

Oh yeah, welcome to BCF. Mr. Green

And the spell checker doesn't know "G". Laughing

I run this site Southwestbikers.com, as I've never seen an actual 'UK' based forum so I thought I'd make my own.

Noticed that on your site.

Well, you're sitting in one right now. A quick google comes up with loads of UK based bike forums.
Visordown is probably the biggest (and least friendly it seems Razz ) while there's plenty of others of various sizes and biases to choose from that all have an already healthy community of posters.

Also, note that there is a links section which you can submit links to if you so desire.
