Hi every one hope some one can help. My stepson has one of these mopeds and has gone through 3 drive belts in the last 14 months, they keep snapping for some reason. I believe the first 2 belts were relatively cheap but he bought a malossi belt about a couple of months ago [he was told that this was a better quality belt] but hes just rung up to say this has snapped and hes now pushing it home.
Surely these belts should last longer than that? Hes not doing long distances either, probably 5mls a day just going to work and around town. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

These cheap chinese ped's are awful quality and are really just death traps.

My advice to you/your stepson is to sell it as fast as possible and buy one from a european/jap manufacturer.

Is your stepson particularly heavy? Often with heavier people the clutch slips on the belt causing extra wear. Belts in CVT's usually wear out before they snap so this is quite a strange thing to happen, some people have had belts years and done 10's of thousands of miles on them before they've even worn out.

When he gets home look to see where the belt snapped and why. Is there any strage wear on either side of the belt? upload some pictures of it.

Thanks for the reply and will upload some pics tomorrow. He is a very small 18 year old [ in fact was told by dr last week hes a stone underweight] and i dont really know anything about motorbikes or mopeds but i thought it very unusual that he would get through so many.
Just a thought but would his driving style have anything to do with it [typical 18yr old on his first moped burning about with his mates]

Unless hes doing burn outs and therefore over stressing the belt then its very difficult to rag one.

I dont know why its snapping belts so quickly, how fast is he riding it? Is it de-restricted?

As far as I know its not de restricted and knowing him hes going about town as fast as it will go.
Hes just got home and ive had a look at the belt, cant upload a photo at the mo but will do my best to describe it, to me actually it looks like its been torn apart, its not a clean break and the inside of the belt is all frayed to about half the belts length. To be honest my first impression [although im prob wrong] was that it looked like the belt jammed up on something as he was riding and it was torn apart, hope that makes sence.

it's a 49cc 4 stroke, it wouldn't be restricted i'd expect.
Sounds like the belts are fine, but the bike isn't Check where the belt runs when he's sat on it and see if it's close to rubbing on something.

The edge of that belt is shredded. Is it rubbing on anything in the case?
