Manx Grand Prix

The first race of the 2011 Manx Grand Prix is tomorrow (Saturday). Practice week has been difficult for the riders with the first practice session cancelled due to weather and bad visibility on the mountain section and another session red flagged and subsequently abandoned following a serious accident at Ramsey on the first lap. RACE DAYS

Saturday 27 Aug

1730 Race 1 - The NEWCOMERS RACE (3 laps) in 2 capacity classes run concurrently. Followed by practice session.

Monday 29 Aug

1015 Race 2 - The 350cc/250cc CLASSIC GRAND PRIX RACE (4 laps) in 2 capacity classes run concurrently
1315 Race 3 - The JUNIOR MANX GRAND PRIX RACE (4 laps)
Followed by practice session.

Wednesday 31 Aug

1015 Race 4 - The 500cc CLASSIC GRAND PRIX/FORMULA CLASSIC RACE (4 laps) in 2 capacity classes run concurrently
1315 Race 5 – The SUPERTWIN/LIGHTWEIGHT MANX GRAND PRIX RACE (4 laps) in 2 capacity classes run concurrently.
Followed by practice session.

Friday 2 September

1015 Race 6 - The SENIOR MANX GRAND PRIX RACE (4 laps) 1315
Race 7 - The CLASSIC SUPERBIKE/JUNIOR POST CLASSIC RACE (4 laps) in 2 capacity classes run concurrently.
Followed by VMCC Closed road parade.

POSTPONEMENT CLOSURES (roads close 45 mins prior to start of 1st race)

In case of postponement of any part of a scheduled race day programme the following closures may apply:-
Tuesday 30 August – 1st race commences 1215
Thursday 1 September – 1st race commences 1215
Saturday 3 September – 1st race commences 1015

Going over on Tuesday. I still think watching classics thundering over the mountain is far more spectacular than the plastic fantastics and, you can wander around the pits and actually talk to the guys doing it. (Unless their Duke has thrown a rod and they are a bit 'busy').
And... the crowd are usually older timers, a bit more sensible than TT week so, a much reduced police presence and a lot more freedom to enjoy the curcuit on your bike.
