I've bought a new bike. It's a Suzuki B120 1976 model. My mate's dad has it in his garage and he was selling so I thought I'd buy it off him!

It needs some TLC, but that's it. I've ridden it and it's a fantastic bike and will look even more fantastic once the paint job and metal is sorted out! Literally just passed an MOT so it's all good!

It is right? I rode it round the streets and I fell in love with it. To change gear you have to click down instead of up, which is confusing. I don't give a shit, I love it! I can't wait to get it insured tomorrow and ride it home!

Don't do anything mental to it (chop bits, wanky paint job), keep it as original as possible and you'll get good money for it as a classic when it's time to change up to something bigger.

That's exactly what I'm doing. It's going to have a service, so that's new oil, clear the carbs out, etc etc. The paint job is going to be identical and the chrome is going to be repaired Thumbs Up

How about that...I was looking for information on this bike but couldn't find much. There was a website showing owners of this bike and it showed your username and picture!

I was wondering if you knew how big the fuel tank is?

Suzuki B120P, started off life as the B100P (Hence the nickname 'Bloop') before getting a 20cc hike in the early 70's.

Utterly brilliant motorcycle, no thrill biking at it's best, indestructable and dog reliable, it'll run for ever! Suzuki made them for years and many cost consious commuters bought them due to the lowish price and reliability

They were really good those 70's small Suzuki two-strokes, I had a couple of A100's and a B120 as winter hacks, none of them ever let me down, although they got tattier and tattier. The B120 ended it's years as a field hack which it proved equally adept at, lost track of it a good few years ago but I bet it's still being ragged around the dirt somewhere!

Nice buy that mate, that's the sort of condition most of them were in back in the day Smile

I've had problems with it today. I couldn't get more than 40mph out of it and it kept losing power.

All it did was lose power, a few judders and it stalled. It did that 11 times on the way to work.

I had to get my mate's van to get me from work 25 miles away Evil or Very Mad We got it on the bench, took the carb out, took the fuel tank off and the taps, and cleaned the shit out of them.

That really wasn't the issue. The spark plug was too rich with sut, so we adjusted the choke, now it runs OK. It's getting a new air filter and battery tomorrow so I'll see how it goes. It's lost 15mph which is quite concerning as it should do 65

2 Stroke?

Have you put fresh oil in and checked the oil is being mixed correctly?

get a new condensor, and clean/replace the points,
mine used to eat condensors,

pull the exhaust off and burn out the carbon out of the header part,
rip off the barrel decoke the piston,
and give it a slight plane on both sides of the head (with 400 paper on glass) check the wrist pin bearing (small end bearing for play) and check the ring gap,

it could just be a compression issue, may be crank seals are gone,
might be worth ordering a set any way,
you can get them out with out stripping the bottom end, if you get a wood screw into the side of the old ones out, it does mean stripping out the clutch and taking off the fly wheel to do the job though,

focus on the top end for now

I'm getting someone to have a look at the electrics for now..

however, what 2 stroke oil would be the best to mix in with the petrol? I've been hearing all this shite about ratios and shit, I just need a link to the oil I need so I can buy it Laughing

Any old 2-stroke oil will do, Carlube is often the cheapest one. No need to bother with expensive synthetic oils on a bike like this.

Is it premix or autolube?

No idea...it's oil injected so I don't have to mix it with the petrol. The bloke who I bought it off said that any 2 stroke scooter oil will be fine, so I will be buying some cheap Cool

EDIT: Ooooops! That's what autolube means Embarassed
