Bit confused about where you can and can't park, is it ok to park on the pavement? Also there are some push bike bars outside my work for bikes but I have seen a few motor bikes parked there. I want to go to work on the bike. I have a parking pass for my car but can't leave it on the bike because it will get nicked/fall off. There is a car park with free bike parking round the corner but I would like to be able to see the bike from work and am worried about it getting nicked.

When I phoned the council they said park it on the free car park or put the pass on it! I said it will get nicked or fall off and they reckoned it wouldn't. I think it would!

What do you reckon?

Thanks

Get your reg number stamped on the pass so its blatant if someone else is using it, stick it to your clocks or somewhere more hidden.

Park in free car park and bring a chain and disk lock.

Parking policy and enforcement is entirely at the whim of the local council and whatever bunch of fresh-off-the-boat thugs they've outsourced it to this quarter.

If you tell us where you are, maybe someone can advise you on local parking for local people.

How big is the parking pass? Would it fit in a tax disk holder, for example?

No it's a big parking pass almost the size of an A4 piece of paper. It's a big laminated thing. I work in Stoke.

Hmm, that's a bugger.

Depending how clever you want to get, you could sandwich the pass between two sheets of perspex - maybe fold it in half, both halves will be visible - rivet or glue them together, drill a hole through and chain the whole thing to your bike. 10 minutes work if you have the stuff to hand.

Alternatively, go and talk to the parking goons on the street, see if you can find one with a shred of human decency left, and ask them what you should do. It's a long shot, mind.

I like the perspex idea! I can also get another parking pass with the bike reg stamped on it so it will be useless for other people to nick. So I might do that and get my friend to make a case for it and chain it to the bike. I will be much happier being able to see it from the office window.

Thanks for the help

I have my parking permit in a bolt on taxdisc holder. One of the leaky 'guaranteed to keep it damp for a year' ones.

Overkill, but its always there.

Being able to see the bike from work is of limited use unless it's actually visible from your desk. Bike thieves will takeit in the blink of an eye. I would prefer the car park with CCTV.

Is that stoke (stoke on trent) ?
If it is and you work at the town hall there are normally vespas parked by the carpark. If not then I have no idea where you can park very limited parking for bikes.

Other than that the best thing is look around for a parking inspector and ask them where they would suggest worth a shot.

Yep it is stoke on trent. There is free parking for bikes near by but it is not clear if its time limited or not.

Going to speak to a warden about it tomorrow.

Ah nice to hear not many people from the area on the forum; good luck on asking the waden it's what I would do to be certain.

Don't know if you know about this website kind of a slow response with there not being many active members however it can be helpful Wink

Thanks for that I didn't know about it. Spoke to the warden he said I can park all day on the free bikes part of the other car park round the corner or on the one I want to park on as long as I park at the bottom near the lamppost and don't obstruct anything although he said "I can't see a problem with that" which didn't sound too convincing. He said I didn't have to display the pass either if I did that.

No problem hope the site hope you Wink
If he is the regual warden I would park where he says that way he can't moan. Also if you don't have to display the pass then you don't have to worry about leaving it at home or in your car saves anyone stealing it as well.

If you are worried about what he said may be wrong I would inquire to see if they cane make a minimized pass that will fit in a seperate tax disc holder or other mount that way they can't have you for anything.

Buy chain/alarm.

Park in free parking.

Sorted.

I park my bike outside my work on a main (and I mean main) road.
Never had an issue.

I've only ever had a bike nicked from my house... Laughing
