Hi all,

I am in the market for a new helmet very soon. Sadly i don't think they will let me test ride bikes without one!! Shocked

I reckon i am going to spend £150-200 on one. The thing i am concerned about is safety. If i spend £200 on a Shark helmet is it going to provide me less protection than a £400 Arai helmet even though they are both ACU gold?

I don't really think so, but i am not sure. When you start paying lots and lots, are you paying for design, brand, comfort and features?

Any helmet recommendations? Have the t.w.o "ultimate helmet guide" but it doesn't rate them!!!

Cheers,
Neal.

PS. I get a Karma warning when i press the preview button, yet the spell and grammer seem ok.

Basically, the one that fits you best will protect you best.

I would say that once you're paying over £150, you are - to some extent - paying for 'features'. Yeah, my Shoei is more comfortable, lighter and quieter than my half-the-price Vemar, but they're both good helmets that would save my bonce in a crash.

So get down the shop and spend some time trying them on.

Like Bendy says - fit is more important than anything else. Chances are that your neck will break before the protection differences in helmets will show anyway.

I'll have to trust you on that one! Cheers for the advise. I'll be sticking to my budget now then.

Yep, 'fit' is everything

Different makes vary wildly in size, some people have a 'shoei head' some have an 'arai head'

(btw: it's GRAMMAR)

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.
