Making a dolly

Hi,

Im drawing up a towing dolly to pull my bike behind my car. I know its possible to buy such things but theyre expensive!!

Couple of points im wanting some advice on. Im either going to make it as a small trailer, but i cant decide weather to support the whole bike, or just the front wheel and run the rear tyre on the road.
OR
A towbar attachment to hook the front wheel into, and tow the bike like a trailer, running the rear tyre on the road.

I have some chunky off road gokart front wishbones hubs and wheels to use so thats 1 of the hard bits sorted. I want to make whatever as small and light as possible.

One other problem, the bike, well moped, is a moped!! The clutch is at the rear so wont be spinning the belt or whatever, but it has a reduction gearbox at the back which would be spinning. Im not planning on towing it far or fast, but dont want to ruin it!!

I'd probably just convert a normal trailer of some description into a bike trailer.

Old wooden box trailers can be had really cheaply, you only want the frame from it.

Then weld a channel onto it for the biek wheels to sit in and you're onto a winner.

Few scaffolding bars cut to size and bolted or welded together.Rear axle and wheels off an old VW or something cheapo from a scrapyard.Towing hitch to link to your motor.

Not sure what the law says about trailers etc being "road legal" though

barbies are exspensive you know. i thought i was onto a good thing here but NO you want to make a trailer

how about a triangular shape 2 wheels at back and 2 brackets for wheel supports to keep it upright . might wanna weld some struts up teh side tharrrr

what materials do u have to use .have u got enough steel to weld up the frame. theres always a few spare scaff bars left about building sites .

Raise the rear wheel unless you like riding with squared off tyres.
