Have any of you lot bought either of these tank decals from halfords?

https://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_198229_langId_-1_categoryId_165547

https://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_195211_langId_-1_categoryId_165547

Bought the first one and came off over night, got a refund and bought the second one and It's already started pealing from the sides.

Don't suppose anyone has had any issues with these?, or am I just applying It wrong? Don't see how I am though.

What did you use to clean the tank prior to application?

How much manly man-strength did you use to press the things on?

It's possible that they've been sitting on the shelf for years and the adhesive has gone off, which is just one of the many reasons to buy a much cheaper equivalent from someone shifting hundreds of them on eBay.

Used a piece of plastic to remove all the crap from the old sticker and then washed it with soap and dried it. Put the sticker on, carefully making sure it was on properly, pressed it down for about 15 secs and left It, came back half hour later and it started to peel off at the edges.

The first one you listed is the same one that's on my CG.

The second one is the same as the one on my ZZR.

I've never had any issues with them. ZZR one has been on since July with no problems, and the CG one has been there since February ish time.

Do you remember how you applied the first one?

Yeah man, just peeled the backing thing off and slapped it on.

I wiped the tank first with a cloth but didn't use any cleaning products through fear of the sticky stuff not sticking as well as it should.

To be honest, I'm stumped. All I can assume is there's residual cleaning stuff on the tank?

I'd be inclined to say you got one from a duff batch, but I don't know.

As I say, mine have been fine and I definitely gave them no special treatment.

Like as not it was just tired stock from Halfrauds, but I'd give the tank a thorough clean and rinse, plus a wipe with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol or some other gentle solvent (but I won't recommend anything else in case it eats your paint Wink )

Hi

Some of the thicker pads can be helped to stick by applying some heat (hair dryer) which will soften the adhesive.

It also makes the tank pad more pliable if you are trying to make it stick over the curved end of the tank.

I have had to do this a couple of times, oddly enough with pads bought from H G.

All the best
Mike

heat would help, and clean the tank with some sort of degreaser, white spirit would do. i had one of the carbon ones from halfords on my old ns125r the issue with it is that they are too big for a 125 tank, bigger bike tanks tend to have a more curved rear of tank area whereas 125's the bend is sharper and the protector doesn't like bending that much due to it's thickness and rigidity but mine did stick eventually but i held it for ages

Cleaned it, heated the tank up with the hairdryer and has stuck on perfectly. Tells you a lot about halfords, though they're good for oil and spark plugs.
