I am looking at a couple of CBR's and as usual I am confused! They are advertised as '99,check on insurance with the reg comes up '99,check on HPI etc brings up '99, but they both definitely look (in pics) like '98. The reason I am asking is that in '99 they changed frames, engine etc. Not a biggy except when I am ordering parts etc and surely the '98 should be cheaper. Could it have been manufactured in '98 registered in '99?

Its possible to have vehicles manufactured years ago but left unregistered for years.

So a Steelie CBR can be registered late as a 1999 CBR.

The later CBR with an ally frame is somewhat better than the steel frame one.

An easy way to tell is just look at it. The 1999FX on... bikes you can see the metal frame between the tank and the side fairing.

On the steelies and before the frame is enclosed by the fairing.

Yeah, thats what I noticed. Shame as the '98 was good value, but I think I would prefer the '99 for all sorts of reasons. The price jump between the two years seems fairly big though. Mmm

98 - RRW 99 - RRX, these are the best of the 'carbed' 16'' front wheel Blades.
Y2K (2000) is a different beast entirely. Fuel injected (snatchy at low revs), 17'' front wheel, swinging arm connects directly to the back of the engine.

ALL blades have alloy frames. Performance difference is nominal.
Up to you. Pay more for an unsorted bike that was dropped after a years production or less for one at the peak of its development. A carby Blade is about as well built a road bike as you will ever get.

Model year should be the 10th digit of the VIN.

99 was the changeover year. So prob just late registration of a '98.

all honda's have a white sticker, on CBR600 and 900 they're mostly on the rear subframe, with the colour code on, they will also have the model code on this sticker, on steel frame 6's this was under the long right sidepanel below the seat
