A review of the positioning of speed cameras has shown they are all in the right place, the government has said.

Hi

Well, given how some are positions that is pretty much conclusive proof that the review was just a total white wash.

All the best

I didn't really expect anything to happen, thought they may make some vague attempt at randomly shifting some around at least.

Surely this will p*ss everyone off even more, public support is already starting to shift and some motoring groups were already starting to put pressure on. Some insurance companies are already saying that they won't increase policies for a three point speeding offence as it is rapidly becoming the norm.

Hi

If the cameras are currently installed in line with the guidelines then the guidelines are wrong. For example one on the A34 north of Stafford which used to overlook a dangerous junction (an accident at which was the main excuse for covering the A34 with speed cameras). They moved the camera about 300 yards past the junction. Almost certainly they found that at the black spot not enough people were speeding to make it worthwhile, so they moved to a more profitable location (but still within 500m of the black spot).

By the way, one of the rules for camera placement is that there must have been X number of killed or seriously injured. Seriously injured sounds bad. It isn't. Basically anything which requires an overnight stay in hospital is classed as serious, so that is any suspicion of concussion. As such I have been seriously injured in at least one bicycle accident.

Those counties that have gone mad with cameras have often increased the number of deaths. Speed cameras kill. At least Dick Turpin have people a choice of their money or their life. Speed cameras get peoples money and their lives.

All the best

Keith
