I've got hold of an almost new Scorpion stainless can with link pipe, to go on my 2005 (digi clocks, RWU forks) Hornet 600. When my spanner's come to fit it, the link pipe's too short, but after speaking to Scorpion, they say that it's the right dimensions for the bike. What gives? How can it be the right length for the bike, the current pipe and stock can fit, but the aftermarket one's too short? Him and me are both confused. Scorpion say they can supply one custom made, but fuck knows how much that's going to cost. Kinda negates the fact that I got the Scorpion can for a song.

One theory is that the down pipes have been cut 'cos they've been holed at some point and the stock pipe etc's been made to fit, but I'm going to have to compare it to some stock photos. When my spanner's had the stock can off, he says that there's a CAT inside it too, that's completely collapsed. He's thinking that that year didn't have a CAT fitted and the current stock can came from a later model (the shop I got it from deals in rebuilds, write-offs and insurance jobs, and I knew it had been dropped at some point in its past!), does anyone know if that's the case? I can't find any info to confirm or deny this.

Any and all advice gladly welcome.

Bike still runs like a dream...

Hi,
I can't comment on the cat, but if the downpipe has been cut, this would obviously change your angle.
Check the downpipe for any signs of a cut, IE, cut, or grind marks.
Good luck.

Could be that it's had headers fitted from a newer bike with the cat, and the silencer to fit them too?
