So after I blew my YPVS control unit up Sad I attempted to replace the obvious damage (the blown diode) but it still doesn't want to work.

I attached the pulley housing anyway so i can choose between open and closed.

Just had a few blasts with the power valve open and it goes like a rocket (nothing like the 500 but still good for overtaking crap that gets in my way).

Obviously I'm revving it to things like 10.5k where the redline is 11k, is this going to wear my engine any quicker? It seems to be running cooler than when the PV was closed (my theory on this is because it wouldn't rev past 8k due to restricted airflow and so was being choked out).

Hi

The revving hard probably means you will thrash it more which will cause more wear.

But it is a simple engine. Enjoy it Wink .

Not sure it should be running cooler though as it should be well within the range the stat and radiator can cope with. Possible the thermostat is on its last legs though.

Fair point, the top end rebuilds aren't that expensive when you can do them yourself. If it blows up (providing I survive the wheel lockup, again!) I should have my new cans for the GPZ.

You need more practice pulling the clutch quickly.

Although a friend many years ago told the story of seizing a 350 YPVS and having a lovely feeling of relief as his fingers reached the clutch lever, followed by total panic when it had no effect as it was the gearbox that had seized.

Haha, I know that feeling of panic. It happened to me before I knew that 2ts were prone to seizing, I did manage to pull the clutch (explains me surviving it happening at 70!). I'd fishtailed a little first though.

Hi

Need to be quicker than that Laughing . With my old MBX125 I got quite practiced at it (and got it down to a couple of hours to do a top end rebuild).

Friend on the RD350 was doing 110 when the gearbox seized.
