If you should be restricted on you're bike or should of been how long did you keep you're restriction for?

ZX6R was never restricted.

TL1000R was restricted for about 10 mins when I rode it home from having them fitted.

Note for T.C. This post is not true. I have my bike restricted to the vast power of 33bhp. I am infact just saying the above to look impressive. The exhausts are also legal. As is the numberplate size. Thanks : )

Never took mine out. Just sold my bike and the next one will be 33bhp too.
I've only got 5 months left until my restriction period's up! Very Happy

It's not worth getting caught without them.

I've never had any of my bikes restricted, having my bike's balls lopped off for £200 has never quite appealed to me.

Hi
Stupid question time!
If you just derestrict the intake on a 125, will you get anymore noticable power and will it run ok?
Sorry for the daft question but I don't know shit about mechanics!

Never had my RS restricted, rode it for 18 months full power until I took my test. My restriction runs out in July so I'm going to wait until then for a new bike. don't like the idea of paying £200 to have a restrictor kit fitted and then having to take it out 5 minutes later.

I think it was about, well it did sit in the mechanics Garage for a while, and i had tea when i got home, so, around 4 hours i recon, mabye 4 and a 1/2, Confused .

In similar boat to Ste, staying legal is my highest priority Thumbs Up , thus the bike is strictly 33bhp, and the K&N and Dynojet stickers are just stickers, the kits aren't really fitted!

My Hornet is restricted, it was done for free it was just something else to screw the dealer out of! Not that I view buying a new bike as an opportunity to get £800 worth of stuff for nowt. I did pay £4000 for it afterall.

I got my R6 restricted by the dealer for free. If I'd of had to pay, I probably wouldn't have bothered.

I was planning on riding home and taking them out, but after 120 miles, I'm not so sure, I've only got 10 months left on restriction and even on 33bhp, I can see me losing my licence Laughing

I might do, I just sooo paranoid about losing my licence because it means so much to me.

But then................ What's the chances of getting caught!!

Not very much.

hmmmm

Can I just check something?

If a bike's not restricted, yet you only have a license for a restricted bike, then the insurance isn’t legal. Thus there is no point paying the insurance, so you will not bother having any (right?).

And since I think everyone in this thread so far has said they got rid of their restriction, does this mean that none of you have insurance? Or if you do, why are you paying for it if you can’t use it?

Hope you can help,
Loz

Most people have the restrictors fitted, and then remove them themselves. So on paper etc the bike is restricted and the insurance people are happy if they ask you. Cops don't know much about this stuff, but again, the bit of paper is what they'll be looking for. Smile

Plus your insurance still covers you for theft cover.

If you take it to a proper mechanic to do it (not the dealers though), will he ask for the restriction certificate to cross it out or something like that?

Or is he obliged to tell someone the restrictors been removed?

Riding a deresticted bike on a restricted licence means that if you did get get shafted and the police did want to make an example of you they could-

a)Do you for no insurance, as you are not riding to the spec of your licence.

b) Do you for no licence, as you are riding a bike that isnt covered by your licence.

However, no one knows of anybody who has been done and most people ride derestricted bikes with no probs.

I had the NSR for about 6 months before de-restricting it, and 6 months again for the RVF. I never bothered with the VTR 'cos I didn't have long to wait and didn't fancy paying £240 for two washers that I'd be throwing away in 3 months time.

I still remember going for a test-ride with Zim after spending all night de-restricting our NSRs. We had the local dual carrigeway all to ourselves, and bloody hell they seemed like the fastest bikes in the universe when we wound 'em up for the first time. Happy days Cool Very Happy

Again, ill say it. You don't need a official F1 international cert.

They lie when they say that you HAVE to have their kit. You dont. Its good faith between you and your insurance company.

Some insurance companies won't let you have insurance unless you have the certificate though.
