Posted: 18:37 - 12 Sep 2011 Post subject: unusual job situation... three jobs to choose from! (screwed |
 |
|
I'm in one of the strangest situations this week, I basically have to choose from three jobs in the next day, two days if I draw it out.
I attended an interview for a job (job 2) within the same company and (shock to me) I got it. So handed my notice in for job 1 etc.
Then I attended a training day, and suddenly, it lost it's appeal. The office seemed... stuffy and the work monotonous. It is only a little extra pay than job 1 (the difference would be only double figures per month at first) and I've come to the conclusion that perhaps it's too much of a risk, that I might lose more than I'll gain, becuase i'll lose all the little "perks" of my current job - i.e. colleages I get on with, etc.
So I attended an interview for an even better paid job. And didn't get it. BUt then they offered me a fixed term 1year position elsewhere in the organisation (job 3).
Because of the situation with job 2, I have attempted to retract my notice for job 1, which although it hans't been accepted, I expect it to be so.
So I'm left with three routes:
1) Stay where I am. With the ppl I know, a job that I don't particularly like, but don't dislike. It's familiar. Explain to the ppl of job 2 that I'll no longer be starting this Monday.
2) Go through with my acceptance of job 2 (starting on Monday) and hope that my first impressions are wrong.
3) Accept the third job, but risk being on the scrapheap after a year, when the contract expires. There is no guarantee that the job will continue after a year, it could, but they can't promise anything.
I am wanting to move on, but I just want a reasonable, well paid, permanant position. I don't want complications. Which is why I'm tempted to stay put, and hope something else pops up.
Any advice? I've never been in such a strange situation in my career. |

Move on, come back to Job 1 (or 4 or 27 or googolplex) in 6 months for another raise. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
