Hi

Have tried searching for this topic on here but havent been successfull..

I ride a Suzuki Bandit 1200 (2000 model). Just as I arrived at college this morning and pulled into the car park my throttle grip suddenly went completely loose. I parked it up and tried twisting it but no accleration what so ever, it just feels loose as though no cables are trying to pull it back into place.

I opened up the housing by the throttle to see if any cables were snapped but both were still in there (just without tension).

I followed the cable that would pull the throttle back to its position if released and it seemed to still be in the right place and attached under the tank.

I didn't have any tools so couldnt take the tank off to see if the acclerator cable was still locked in but it seemed to be there (felt loose though).

I was hoping someone out there could shed some light on what might have happened? If one of the cables had snapped then surely it wouldnt be attached at each end still, and secondly wouldnt that only affect either the accleration or de-acceleration cable?

I can take tools with me tomorrow but would be great to get an idea of what I may have to do..

Appreciate any help!!

Certainly sounds like it's either broken or come off.

You've checked the twistgrip end so now you need to check the carb end. You need to check if the linkage on the carbs is moving, I suspect it wont be. If it's come off, put it back. If it's broken, you'll need a new cable.

As a temporary "get you home" measure, you can sometimes swap the close cable across and use it as an open, there is a spring in the linkage that will close it without the close cable but the throttle response won't be as quick.

Other possability is the adjuster having backed itself off or come undone.

Thanks for the reply.
One thing I don't understand though is if one cable I'd loose, broken or disconnected then how come both go loose? When I checked the one linkage I could get to on the carb it was still attached, the link came off the carb quite easily though as there was no tension. Guess I will see if the second is still on when I look tomorrow..

The decelerator cable will be loose unless the throttle is twisted. You could just turn up the idle to max and ride it home.
