Whats that got to do with the Workshop?

Hmm, I will explain Very Happy

I always felt that the bike (Baby Varadero) at 30 felt like 40 in the car. I put it down to being new to bikes and so on. (OMG! I am such a noob Razz )
Anyways, had a great ride out to Surrey but I used the Sat Nav and at 25 indicated on the bike I am doing 33mph. At 48-50 I am doing 60. I went to 65 and the bike needle barely nudged 53-54. All these are from memory so it's not going to be 100% but it's close

I'm surprised I haven't been nicked yet. I've been passing speed cameras at 30 indicated on the bike ffs Rolling Eyes

Even at 20mph indicated the TomTom is giving me around 24mph The Sat Nav is not faulty btw, it tallies with the car so it's defo the bike speedo and I need to get that fixed.

My main question I need to ask is can someone tell me what the fix is, maybe it's as simple as a new cable?

I don't know as I thought a speedo cable either works or not?

Cheers gents!

Was the sat nav reading in KPH rather than MPH ?

Obvious I know, but worth asking....

Drop the front wheel and check the speedo drive. Make sure non of the parts are worn and that it is well greased. The cable can be checked at the same time. If both are fine then it will have to be down to the clock itself.

Thanks Mick,

So, maybe just invest in a new cable and just get it done. It doesn't cost the earth I spose and at least this way I'm covering all bases?

If there is no easy fix I'm happy to do this as if I do my test and get done for speeding it probably wont go down to well with the examiner I reckon Very Happy

I do wonder why no one else has had this problem yet though. Still, I'll get it sorted I hope!

Construction & Use regs state that a speedo has to be within +10 -0%. Put simply, manufacturers of both cars and bikes wind them up slightly to accomodate different rolling radius's caused by tyre wear, differing tyre pressures etc - if they're over by up to 10% all is well but they cannot legally underread. More than 10% I'd be looking at tyre pressures/sizes/tread depths.

Some overread is normal, but you're well over so assuming tyres are OK I'd check the speedo drive and cable are properly fitted before spending any money.
