Charge friend's GF rent?

One wants his missus to live there. She stays in his room.

Should she pay rent, or pay rent and share of the bills, or just bills?

What do you reckon?

I was going to live with a couple, i thought it should be rent & bills / 3 each. They said that was the most stupid thing they've ever heard, it should be / 2. I was unsure until we went to look at some flats etc, they automatically assumed that the bigger room would obviously be theres. I decided against the whole thing as even though i'd be paying half the rent i'd only have got 1/3 of the living space, run up 1/3 of the bills, got the smaller room etc. Plus girls take forever in the bathroom.
Your situation is similar, but also a little different. I guess she's moving in after you've been living there a while, and would be spending loads of time there even if she didn't live there? If so then the only inconvenience to you would be having her around a bit more, food and bills.
Having her pay rent is only going to reduce yours by 1/5 so it would hardly be crippling financially.

The rent and bills should be split equally between the people that live there.

If he moves his missus in then there will be 5 occupiers, therefore the bill should be split 5 ways.

Good news is you get a tiny bit less to pay on the rent and rates, bad news is with the extra person you might find the electricity going up and if your on a water meter that will increase.

Only way to be fair though. If the BF doesnt agree then he can pay her share too.

If she's moving in then she should pay a share of everything, if she's staying every now and then or for a few days a week then a bung towards the bills...

Either way she should at least be entertaining the house as a way of appology for invading everyone elses space ...

Can't understand why someone would want their other half to move in with then into a house share, I know rents are high but...Meh, fuck it, I wouldn't have asked or even considered it, I'd rather have a bit less each month and move in with her full time than knowing four of my mates are drilling holes in the ceilings, setting up web cams and sniffing her dirty knickers for free...

The rent won't go up with an extra person living there, but the bills will. Divide the rent by 4, and the bills by 5.

Then as Pinky said above, add a huge tax for the drama that invariably comes with it. Once a woman's in the house, scatter cushions, pot pourri and pink looroll starts making an appearance. It's all downhill from there.

I don't think rent should increase, they are still only using the same amount of room, but bills should be split 5 ways, and more importantly she should help out with cooking/cleaning/whatever, and not complain about how you guys live.

Bit of a diff situation. Im sharing with my mate.

His other half is there a fair whack... as is mine.

He is under the thumb, whereas I am not My other half actually puts money towards bits.. Like me and mate pay 50/50 regardless, my other half will say give me a tenner a month for using the electricity during the day and showering/cooking etc.

Also helps out with washing up n that.

His...he wont ask for money for, she wont give money, she eats food (granted she cooks it) and pays for some of their food.

We have a "fair game" cupboard.. bike tools, bike oils, cheapy foods like noodles/pasta/bread and frying pans etc where its as said..fair game.

Us guys put stuff in there...the girls eat it But mine chips in... his, doesnt

Just get a contribution to the bills, maybe just split the bills... see how they feel... rent or bills, they arent on the tenancy so if they just stop paying rent, fuck all can be done, hence bills would be a nicer thing as they WILL be using electricity and water.

A lads flat is a lads flat simple as, what happens if you all want a blow out in the flat or want to bring a load of folk back.

He will end up going out less as he will become hen pecked by her and you will lose the freedom dynamic.

It will cause tension

Steer clear or move out yourself before none of you speak again.
