So, I've you've been reading my Mod 1 thread, you'll know I've gotten myself a parking ticket today Evil or Very Mad I said I'd post here with more details of it but I think I'm probably going to just end up paying it.

This is the best shot I can get of the area:
https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=natwest,+hinckley&hl=en&ll=52.542149,-1.373413&spn=0.000007,0.006899&sll=52.541024,-1.367369&sspn=0.007295,0.019419&vpsrc=6&t=h&fll=52.541797,-1.374825&fspn=0.001902,0.006899&z=18&layer=c&cbll=52.542149,-1.373413&panoid=N2jlyYDnYLyMHpV93dW4zA&cbp=12,159.28,,1,1.1

I can't see any signs saying I can't park there - and even the copper who I spoke to about it (he was walking past) said the guy was a bit of a nob for giving me one. He reckons that it's because of the double yellows, but he saw no problem with me being where I was.
I asked whether I could dispute it and he said I probably could, but I'd risk having to pay more if I went to court. So yeah, probably just going to pay the money grabbing bastards.

IMAG0072 is a shot showing where the bike was parked. As you can see, no "can't park here!" signs, other than the double yellows (only on the corner) of that road behind me.

IMAG0073 is the same as IMAG0072

IMAG0074 is a shot of the parking ticket. Offence is "parking in a restricted street during prescribed hours".

IMAG0075 just some more details from the ticket.

IMAG0076 they're asking me to send my credit card details through post, without offering any secure mail? I don't think so.

Parking on the pavement is likely to get a ticket regardless of the double yellows as it is 'illegal'

It will be the double yellows.
You cant park there, path would be considered an obstruction anyway...but double yellows just mean you cant park here.. regardless of being on the path or road.

From the highway code

244
You MUST NOT park partially or wholly on the pavement in London, and should not do so elsewhere unless signs permit it. Parking on the pavement can obstruct and seriously inconvenience pedestrians, people in wheelchairs or with visual impairments and people with prams or pushchairs.

If I'd had known that I'd have driven around till I found somewhere. Never realised there was a problem with the path so long as you're not causing an actual obstruction - officer didn't seem to think it was a problem.

Nevermind though.

Most annoying part of it all is if the que had been 10 minutes shorter I'd have gotten out of the bank before the guy ticketed me. He'd literally finished writing it 20 seconds before I walked out of the bank, after a 30 minute que. Evil or Very Mad

As for that highway code part; I've never ever seen a wheelchair or push chair attempt to get through that part of the town. By a bollard, when there's a perfectly wide spare path to the other side.

If there are bollards the space between them and the building may be owned by the building owner and is therefore not pavement, so technically you can park there.

I know this works in London because I park in similar circumstances.

Good luck proving it though.

Yeah, I don't think I'll be able to prove that. IMAG0073 demonstrates nicely what I mean though.

Just going to pay the fine. But I'm really annoyed about it :/

Blind person walking along using the building side as a tappin point.
Someone walking along talking on their phone.....

If a someone walked into the road and laid down, you would complain.
So why drive over the footpath and park there.....

Road = traffic
Footpath = non traffic Thumbs Up

Probably would have considered that if I didn't think I was allowed just there.

Just tried to pay the blooming thing online and it's not been added yet, I have to wait up to 24 hours before it's available online. Lovely.

Just as a happy thought for the day; I'd love the satisfaction of seeing a parking warden getting a ticket. Rolling Eyes

Appeal it anyway. You've a few days before it goes up and as soon as you appeal it, as I understand it, 'the clock' stops on how long you have to pay. When you get a response, if it's negative, you can pay then. You might as well.

I got let off a parking ticket once on the bike for parking in a car space in a car park, when I didn't realise that there was dedicated bike parking just round the corner. No real excuse other than ignorance on my part.

You've nothing to lose, must be worth a punt. What's the worse they can do?

Who gave you the ticket? Council warden or private parking company? If its the latter do absolutely nothing. Look on Pepipoo.com for the full details of enforcement of parking tickets.

A lot of the time they'll just cancel as you may be the type to keep pushing and they really can't be arsed.

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by appealing. It looks like maybe the yellow line doesn't have a correct end stop, use it as an appeal basis. If they don't go by the rules, you don't have to either

Normally I'd be all "Fight the Man, man!" but in this case you're banged to rights. The footpath is for footerists. Ticketing you was unreasonable, pedantic and small minded, but by golly, it's the British way! (Ticket was probably issued by a Nigerian, mind).

I'm going to pay up for the ticket. I saw nothing wrong with parking there but I was in the wrong and I accept that. Nope, not Nigerian - as I came to my bike I saw the guy at the other end of the street (near the pizza shop if you click the G-Maps link, white guy with that ever so fetching orange hi-viz.

I'd love to "stick it to the man", but my legal knowledge doesn't really exist unfortunately. I'm just going to take this one on the chin really. Rather annoyed I've been got for this, but serves me right for not parking at the Pay & Display like everyone else.
