...are still making me smile. I hope that this feeling never goes away. I had a days leave today, to coincide with the missus' day off from work. Had a cheeky beer or three last night, which was the first for a while (trying to leave off prior to giving the liver a hammering when we go back to the Canaries soon), and a nice lie in this morning. When the missus eventually got up I'd already sewn the spare full zip that came with my leathers into the back of my textile coat and watched the weekends 125 and Moto2 (both awesome races, piss all over MotoGP) with a couple of nice cups of coffee. After the missus got up, we went and did a bit of shopping, despite the revolting weather, back for lunch (after a sweaty appetizer ) and then I did the ironing watching "Faster" while her hairdresser turned up and did her roots. After that, knowing that the bike was a bit filthy after getting caught in the rain on my way home from work yesterday, I thought I'd go and give it a wash and a bit of a fettle. So I walked round to the garage and the sense of fulfillment began. I always get a buzz when I roll the bike onto the paddock stand, and I stood for a moment, looking at its rear profile with a real sense of lust. Quick going over with Muc-Off, and a shine of the exhaust with some T-Cut chrome cleaner and she looked shiny and new (Like a Virgin) and ready for some thrashing. I thought I'd do a quick electrical check, so turned the key and checked lights, indicators, brake lights etc. I found the number plate light had blown so after a quick Google for a part number, it was up to the local Motosave (Max Power car accessory chav central) for a bulb. The look I got and the resultant pleasure I felt after they asked me what model car it was for (there was a discrepancy between the name of what I thought I wanted and what they supplied) and I told them it was for the number plate light of my bike was blissful. They looked like I'd just spoken to them in Japanese. 79p, home, screwdriver, cover off, bulb swap, cover on, screwdriver, check. Works. Stupidly simple, tiny thing, but it made me feel like I'd achieved something special. Together with other stupid, ordinary things that I did today, and some high quality time spent with the missus, I can honestly say that I feel very warm and fuzzy, and wholeheartedly looking forward to my ride to work tomorrow.
It was the same last week when I took the side panels off to get to the shock and adjusted the pre-load. Simple tweak, but what an immense sense of satisfaction. As I said, I hope this feeling never leaves me.
And the chicken strips are almost non-existent now, especially on the right side of the rear, less than a centimetre...
That's all.
