So i've had my 2007 sv650s 4 months now, and its coming up to 7000 mls and i was going to do an oil change, and change the anti freeze etc. my father who's always had bikes tells me not too, as they'd have done it before i bought the bike. Is this true? the service book just has the dealers stamp, nothing about any oil changes?

What mileage was on it when you bought it?

Oil changes are usually every 4k with filters being every 8k.

Chances are they wouldn't have done it unless they specified they'd serviced it, or you asked them to.

Depends if they said it would be done when you bought it.

If they've stamped the service book then I would like to have think they have.

If it's just coming up to 7k now, I'd probably wait a bit longer then do an oil and filter change. Never worried about changing coolant myself, if it's not overheating it's ok.

Some say old coolant has less corrosion resistance, but personally I don't see it as a huge issue.

Why don't you just give the dealers a ring and ask if they have any record of the work carried out on the bike, I wouldn't trust a dealer even if they said they had changed it, would probably put some Asda 20w50 in. TBH for the price that it's going to cost you to do the oil change then why not, it's the best way of keeping your engine sweet for years to come.

Coolant has a package of corrosion inhibitors which degrade with time and use. The best organic acid coolant these days has a life span of around 5 years, so if the bike is a 2007 then it is going to be due a change soon. Probably won't make a difference in your ownership of the bike but if every owner thought like that then nothing would ever get maintained Shocked

Two ways to know 100% if servicing has been carried out.

1. Do it yourself.
2. Closely watch someone else do it.
