 |
|
Right, I've mentioned this already but I had other problems to sort out at the time. So now that my bike is running well after adjusting the mixture screw and the idle screw (thanks kickstart) it's time for me to take another look at de-restricting my bike.
Problem is this. I checked for the intake restrictor. Isn't there... Checked for the exhaust restrictor. Isn't there....
Bike pulls up to 85Mph on the flat. 6th gear maybe adds that extra 5mph to get to that top speed but you have to get it just right or it drops all the way back down to 70Mph. If I get it right, then sitting in 6th gear at 85mph the revs sit at 9000RPM. Should a full power NSR reach the redline in 6th?
I don't know what the 0-60 speed is. I'll need to do some further testing on that. Feels really quick but then it's all I've ever been used to.
My bike is an NSR125. It's an R Reg '98. As far as I'm aware it's not an import. The clocks are in MPH. Under the seat on the frame it says it'sa NSR125RS. Not sure what that's all about...
Has anyone got any ideas for me to try? Sorry to bother you all with these crappy de-restriction questions. I'm sure you've had enough of them.... ____________________ Honda NSR125R -> Suzuki GSXR400R GK76a -> Kawasaki ZX636 B1H -> Honda CBR400RR NC29 -> Nothing |

If it ain't redlining and you have to be clever to change into 6th then I'd say it's still restricted as my bro's 2001 NSR will do 85mph in 6th with no problem at 9000rpm (so the sprockets are the same as my bro's too). It may well be restricted in the CDI in this case. Hmm weird... ____________________ Current bike: VTR1000F Firestorm. That paint job in your Avatar doesn't look like a UK one but it culd be different panels to when new, and I could be wrong.
Does it have KM or MPH on the clocks? (I know you said it does 85mph but you can get overlays for clocks).Ever had any problems with the headlights dip for the MOT? |

Import bikes have the lights dipped the other way to us, as they ride on the other side of the road, thus don't want the beams to be shining in the eyes of oncoming cars.
It could mean this, or it could just mean your lights aren't quite adjusted correctly. |

Headlights on the continent face the other way as you drive on the other side of the road. In the UK they should point slightly to the left, as we ride/drive on the left hand side of the road. Its the opposite if its an import as it will have been set up for a foreign country's roads.
If they have questioned the positioning of the headlight in the MOT then they might have had to adjust it (a lot!) for it to pass.
Edited to say that Ste beat me to it and was much more brief. I knew I shouldn't have bothered! ____________________ Colin McRae MBE 1968 - 2007 RIP

I'm thinking that the headlights must have been adjusted at previous MOTs. The guy's exact words on the MOT were 'no defined pattern in headlights'. I remember it as I had no idea what he was on about. ____________________ Honda NSR125R -> Suzuki GSXR400R GK76a -> Kawasaki ZX636 B1H -> Honda CBR400RR NC29 -> Nothing |

I've never had to MoT a bike. What's it like? Is it as difficult to MoT a bike as it is a car? I've MoT'd loads of bangers (never really spent a lot of money on cars) and had loads of trouble. I know that bikes are easier to work on but I suppose I'm asking if it's just as strict...
EDIT: PS. What's the main problem areas that people get with bike MoT's too? ____________________ Current bike: VTR1000F Firestorm. Previous: Firestorm (written off) - XJ600 Divvy - NSR125 - DT125 and a load of offroaders. |

The other thing I got failed on was that my handle bars didn't align with the front wheel. Meaning that I had to drive with the bars squint to go in a straight line. It wasn't really that bad. But how I never noticed I will never know.
Other parts were just things like a loose bit of fairing. Easy fixed. The other thing was the switch for the rear brake light was knackered. ____________________ Honda NSR125R -> Suzuki GSXR400R GK76a -> Kawasaki ZX636 B1H -> Honda CBR400RR NC29 -> Nothing |

Hi
Does sound possible that it is an import. However on a 1998 bike it might well be old enough that it would not have had a cdi unit restriction.
How many miles has it done? Has it had the piston / rings changed?
I think some people have found different restrictions in the exhaust.
The handlebars should be fairly easy to fix. Loosen the bolts clamping the forks to the top yoke. Slacken off the front wheel spindle a touch. Hold the front brake on and push down hard on the forks quite a few times. Then tighten everything back up again.
All the best
