PostPosted: 09:13 - 16 Sep 2011    Post subject: Epic search for '91 Bandit 400 CDI - Where to look next? Reply with quote

As per the thread title, my local garage tells me I've got a rusted busted CDI on my 1991 Bandit 400.

I've been checking eBay every day with search terms of:
CDI/ECU/bandit 400/suzuki gsf400

Also googled to see if I can spot some parts.

Can anyone suggest more places to look online? I've been searching for two weeks now Crying or Very sad

Thanks in advance.

Thanks MickC!

Not sure of the model I want. Tried the USA selection, but no mention of a CDI under the electrical category.
https://www.cmsnl.com/suzuki-gsf400_model13523/

EDIT: Found it here, under 'signal generator'. They want 450 euros for it Laughing

Its listed further down under SIGNAL GENERATOR at a whopping 454 Euros thats about £400.00
Might be worth trying one of the on line breaker searches to find one ( e.g.: https://bikebreakersuk.com/ )

Sorry that was written as you posted your edit, yeh thats a lot of money!!!

I've submitted a request for the part on that breakers site about half an hour ago after a tip off from a local garage owner. Could be promising!

Thanks again Mick

Hi

£400 sounds about right for a new one.

I have a feeling the cdi unit is a weak point on these bikes, hence why not easy to find.

Not sure if you could use a dyna 2000 ignition unit.

All the best

Keith

Remember if you go for the US parts you will usually have to pay 20% tax plus a £10 handling fee by the post office (although I've had a few of them state it cost less than £20 to buy- then its exempt from charges - payed £149.99 for an exhaust system and the sellar put 14.95 on the customs label, had a similar one from Canada as well )

None of those parts were from the US. 3 from the UK one from china, plus I have bought parts from the US, China and Japan including a very expensive exhaust system and never had problems with customs.

Even at 20% tax it is still cheaper for a new one from China.

Try searching for "igniter", and use translate on the Japanese websites, unless you speak Japanese of course!
