I want a 250. I'm not overly knowledgeable on the ins and outs of them, and don't have a copy of UBG on me at the mo.

So, can anyone tell me a bit about the NSR250 MC16, and the FZR250RR.

Is the FZR250 the really, really bad one?

Oh and convince G to sell me his RS250 for 800 quid.

You do know the FZR250 is a 4-stroke? Very revvy, no power below 10,000rpm much like a CBR250. They're supposed to be reliable though. The early NSR250's are said to be nice bikes with good handling and an easier power delivery than most 2-stroke 250's. However they're pretty rare so getting parts will be an issue if you need them. I think, relatively, there is a lot more of the MC18 models around. For the marginal price difference they'd be my bet.

Hi

The FZR250 is a 4 cylinder 16V 4 stroke. It would make your VFR look like it had the power delivery of a V Max. Chances are the spares situation would also be far worse than the VFR as well.

The NSR is meant to be a nice bike. However again expect spares to be a problem.

Both are only available as imports.

All the best

Keith

Hey Robby...there's a nice Honda CBR250R for sale in the exchange and mart section Razz

Heh, seriously, the FZR250 1988-93, 249cc w/c DOHC four
40hp 120mph 50mpg 330lb

Uncomfortable but handles exceptionally well. Minor spills cause large cracks in the plastic. Loose gearchange indicate high miler, should be avoided unless they are very cheap. Also, top end should be very quiet; clutch judder at low revs is normal. Not a bad buy.

Personally I think the FZR is the worst of the 250 inline-4's, the ZXR250 and GSXR250 have round about the same performance.

Isn't it the CBR 250 that redlines at 21,000rpm? Or something crazy. I'd have an NSR, RGV, or RS, there all good for about 130, and just crazy 2-ST fun,

Hi

The CBR250 has a red line of around 19000rpm depending on the exact model (although apparently the rev counter over read substantially).

All the best

I'm getting TiNs CRM250, and hopefully supermotoing it.

So this time I stayed relatively close to what I wanted.

Being in the bike trade you should know that a bike is for sale until a deposit has been put down on it Kev.

I had an FZR250rr nice bike when it worked!! And you will not find many people to service it cheap, and spares arnt cheep!!

I had a bulb go on mine once and it cost me £30 for a new one, as it needed to be imported from europe!!

It was fast mind you, revved to 18,500rpm and I saw 130mph from it! but they do cause a lot of hassle when broke! Evil or Very Mad

Nice one Robby. The CRM is the Donkeys Dobber of all 2 stroke trail bikes, and i would have got one myself if i had,
a) seen any for sale
b) been able to afford one.
What model is it? I would have loved the AR later version with the Magnesium gold coloured engine cases. They fetch a pretty penny secondhand though even tho the newest ones are 99 bikes. Would be a cool supermoto bike, with a few mods. Have you visited (www.crm250.com). Ive got me trusty KMX200 now so im fairly happy, im just waiting for a cash injection now so that i can start my KMX SM conversion. I would also have settled for a TDR250 but i always think that the fewer cylinders on a stroker the better, as there is less to go wrong then!

Anyone know know where to find a guide to supermotoing it? I had a look on crm250.com, and none of the guys there know what wheels will fit.

Best bet at the mo seems to be RGV125 wheels and some custom spacers.

I think the main problem will be sorting the front caliper.
Hopefully you can get a bracket from some where for not /too/ much as it's a fairly common conversion and say a r6 (or similar) caliper off ebay for not much.
You may well want to stiffen up the front suspension then, seeing that it's going to be soft for mx and will tend to dive under heavy braking on the road anyway, I can see it bottoming out with a decent brake.

The spacers for wheels etc should be pretty easy to get mahined up, so that shoudln't be too much of a prob.

I like cast wheels for a supermoto, but unless your bike can accept wide rims like sports 400's wheels etc, then i think its more hassle. I could probably use TZR250 wheels or something on my KMX, but they are narrow, and id only be able to fit skinny tyres, which i think would be pointless. I know that a 110/70 and a 140/70 tyre will fit my KMX with enough clearance for the chain etc, so im just going to spend a bit more and have some new wider rims re-spoked to my OE hubs. The plan for the brakes is to use KLR650 stuff, as the KMX is 68kg lighter than a KLR, so it should stop ok. Il need a new shock, and hopefully some firmer fork springs. If the rest of my bike was mint then that would be about it, but it looks like il need to spend a fortune on it now, as i nipped out tonight to the shop, and the gearbox is making some weird banging noises, it doesnt always go from 5-6th gear, and neutral is a pig to find. Im pretty sure the main bearings are rumbling also, so if im going to sort my bike properly it will be a nut an bolt re-build, when i can afford it.

Isn't it hideously expensive getting new rims put onto existing hubs? Everywhere I've seen has been about 600-700 quid, whereas some wheels off a sports 125 are about 40 or 50 quid from ebay/breakers.

Well im hoping to get some wheels respoked for about £350-400, as if any more than this, and as you say its not worth doing. I just think it would look better than trying to get some narrow cast wheels to fit, especially if i can get some anodised rims.
I reckon the Motor will cist me up to £200+ more if i tune it which im going to without a doubt, and around £800 to sort out the chassis and suspension with new new stuff. A lick of paint and some powercoating, and it should look and ride better than a Husky SM125 i hope!

Robby: remember most sports 125s have 130 rears, which kinda defeats the point of getting sports bike wheels so you can have sticky rubber Neutral.

Was looking at the crms. Wanted a mark3 or AR. Supposedly the AR is slightly down on power compared to the older models as the AR ignition is more environmentally friendly.

CRM specialists - https://www.leisuretrail.co.uk

loads of parts and tuning parts. Throw your money in the direction of mugen parts to release the potential.
