So I'm new to this whole motorbike thing, just about to buy my first big bike, probably a 2007+ Hornet, but anyway I don't really know any good brands for motorcycle equipment or even wheres good to buy it from. I will mainly be commuting into uni and I need a waterproof backpack that will accomodate a 17" Laptop.

I'm also rather fashion conscious...

What are your thoughts?

A top box might be a better bet, however Kriga make good backpacks, not cheap though.

I'd rather not have to fit a topbox, not very aesthetically pleasing in my opinion!

Just had a very quick look through the Kreiga website, looks promising...

As Chris-red mentioned, a topbox will do everything you want, however, if you want to stick with a pack, buy whatever feels most comfortable and looks good...then go out and buy one of these:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LARGE-DRY-BAG-HIGHLANDER-CAMPING-WATERPROOF-45L-ORANGE-/280671138241?pt=UK_SportingGoods_HikingEquipment_RL&hash=item41594db1c1

...better than a waterproof pack by a factor of 10!

If you're after Kriega... I've just ordered a US30 Tailpack from www.vcustoms.co.uk

If you sign up as a VIP member, and receive a few emails etc about products they give u £20 off first order

So It was 68 not 88 and free delivery too!

Dont know if thats any good for you - but i've been searching all day to find cheapest and was quite lucky to stumble across that as all shops seem to be within £1-2 of eachother!!

Thumbs Up

Well, you can get smaller versions but if you really do want waterproof, this is the sort of thing you want...if it has zips, seams and openings it isn't really waterproof.

Have a look at your local camping/hiking shop.
I use the missus' hiking rucksack, does the job perfectly.

+1

I reckon you'll get the same thing cheaper because it's not labelled as a motorcycling pack, rather a hiking/walking pack.

I'd still recommend a top box over a pack anyday but it's your choice! I'm rather utilitarian.

I use a tesco camping backpack I bought when all glastonbury was on, cost me 13 quid, is massive and has a waterproof fluorescent orange cover. Carried a laptop in it during torrential rain and no water came through. Only ting you need to do is sew a clip or a lace onto the cover so it looks round the back ofthe backpack and doesnt come off in the wind.

The prices of Kreiga stuff is insane.

Can't recommend the Kappa 30L Rucksack enough. Plenty of room at 30L, very secure and also not let me down in waterproofing either. Just as good as the competitors charging almost double the price.

Buy a dry bag. My local outdoor shop sells a good selection, clicky.

That way you can make any rucksack waterproof and/or just bungee it too your bag.

What's the quality like? From the picture it looks kinda flimsy for nigh on £50...

I've got the Knox six-pack now replaced by the K-Pack and can confirm it's waterproof, to a point as torrential rain over a sustained period will probably saturate it beyond it's limits, though a coating of Granger's Fabsil helps.

As an alternative you might consider a cheaper rucksac coupled with a Sea-to-Summit 20L dry sac, which would hold your laptop and have room for a bit of other stuff, around £10 from eBay.

I wear one of these when I'm riding https://www.firebox.com/product/1775/Overboard-Dry-Bags It's the backpack, not the sacks.

It seems to be completely waterproof, apparently it will even float if you drop it in water... Haven't tried that yet though. Also, it's comfy,

Seems solid so far. No reason it won't last years. straps and buckles are all solid and the PVC 'welding' seems great too. 5 months on and after a good clean it's still good as new. Thumbs Up
