Since every man, one-legged lesbian and her dog belongs, if you listen to the bullshit media, to a "community" of some sort or other I have a simple question:

Is there a "biking community" and if so who would you imagine is the leader?

I'll put in an early shout for Teflon Mike as that boy has probably forgotten more about bikes than most people, myself included, know.

Biking comunity you say?

Would that be like a load of bikers who get together for ride outs?

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v494/be1ly/BCF%20Day%20out/CIMG0176.jpg

Who meet up with other like minded bikers?

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v494/be1ly/BCF%20Day%20out/SS852092.jpg

Share silly stories and chat about bikes either in person or on a forum?

Nope. Not that I'm aware of. We're all a bunch of solitary anti social bastards really.

Just as there probably is the knitting world too!

Teflon was removed from the top spot by G and Korn forcibly after he called his first meeting as Chairman of the Biking Community. The meeting opened in 1975 and in 2008 Korn and G saved the rest of us by gagging Mike and taking him outside where he was strapped to his bike with gaffer tape and was last seen hammering along the M1 heading for Scotland.

Oooh! I'm in those pics! Very Happy

In all seriousness, head out of the city. Once you realise every biker is waving/nodding at you and chatting to you at the front of the lights, that's when you realise we're a community.

Proper bikers in the good olde days of proper biking!
Just look at those bikes and the oiled jeans and tatty leather jacket riding gear!
God that must be a brand new Katana in that pic.
39.4 pence a litre too! Like it...

1.79 a gallon would have been bloody expensive in 1980, was it a motorway service station?

That was just a rumor.... my bike wouldn't get me to the M1, let alone heading for Scotland! & I'd be peeling the gaffer tape of trying to save it for something 'useful'!

While CHAIRMAN?!?! I spent ten years avoiding meetings, and when I did, I sat in the corner and only spoke to take the piss!

Wouldn't WANT the job! With Frank Zappa on that one; actually WANTING putting ones self forward for elected office should be reason enough to disqualify any-one from holding it.

Meanwhile, I reckon Fixer has his pics mixed up; that's a CBX550 in the front row, & they weren't launched until 1982, & the Katana was new '81.... petrol at my local station was also 1.25 per gallon, in 1981, & I remember there being a forour about it going up that high..... I reckon its Spring '83 But yeah! Red Leather Jacket in them days made you an Elcie-Boy! & Leather Trousers were for fans of Roxy-Music!

My mate's still got his red leather bike jacket with "Eddy" painted on the back......most annoyingly it still fits the wanker Sad I reckon he has a painting in his loft that just keeps getting fatter and fatter!

Sod the price of petrol, just guess how much the houses in those pics were selling for around the early 80's.I'd be willing to bet those buggers were selling for around £30k.....now they'll be £250 - £350k easy :'(

I'm not an individual, I'm part of the Collective.

There are many different biking communities, to suit your taste. Whether you want to smoke fags then hoon around on race replicas, or smoke fags then lumber around on cruisers, or smoke fags then ride your BMW carefully and conscientiously while being able to stop on your own side of the road in the distance that you can see to be clear, there's a fag based bike club that'll suit you.

It may well be 1982.I have been soooo drunk since then.

Good observation skills there.

This was on the road into Hastings when Plodwoman Sergeant tried to stop us from entering into town via the main road.So 'Plan B' was put into operation and everyone did a 'U' turn, drove back up the hill and got into Hastings via the ridge road.Plod do not bother with us anymore.

That picture is beautiful.

No Hi-vis vests, no garish badly fitting lumpy textiles, no vomit coloured plastic bikes. In effect: no motorcyclists.

I see plenty of bikers though. Cool

Didn't think the Katana came out until '81 though.

I must be a miserable bastard, but I do get fed up of being part of a 'community' of nodders and wavers. I went on a roundabout trip to Devil's Bridge today and felt obliged to nod and wave back to everybody who did it to me. I swear my neck is aching from all the false familiarity... Having to look out to see if somebody nods then nod back out of politeness puts me of my riding...

A bloke there in a car got talking to me about my bike and introduced me to his wife. He had one when he was younger, or some such. He said to her that 'we' are a brotherhood and that whenever you meet a biker for the first time its like you've known him all your life. Is it me, or does that seem a little over the top?

You should have asked for a go on his wife to test whether or not his interpretation of 'brotherhood' extended that far. Very Happy It's bollocks and he's just trying to make out he had a life prior to meeting her. My Dad used to make shit like that up all the time, was very funny Very Happy

The reason I asked this question was because over the past few weeks I've heard people on the telly supposedly speaking on behalf of various 'communities' from the 'gay community' (bloke with, surprisingly a massive tash and shaved head) to the 'Dog owners community of Wandsworth or somewhere' (some batty woman kissing her dog on the lips!).
It's a media label to give importance to one persons views. As if all dog owners have the same views on anything, even picking up dogshit!

I haven't, however, seen a spokesman for the 'motorcycle community' and wondered if one did exist what they'd look like or say!
