I've been nabbed, it's non-endorsable but about 2 weeks after I start using the bike for commuting to work the rozzers parked a white van with a video camera on the grass verge and snapped me driving down the bus lane which is marked Bus/Bicycles/Taxis only.

This is in Gateshead, they've just changed the road layout there, and what used to be a really wide single lane is now a bus lane, then a really narrow lane with a solid white line. So filtering up that isn't possible. It's backed up with traffic from the roundabout for about 2 miles, so queuing doesn't take my fancy either.

Since I've been caught I've started going the other way which is annoyingly adding a few miles onto my journey each day.

Do I have any defence in this instance, don't really fancy paying a £70+ fine.

Don't think you do. It's a risk you take if you do something like that. However I'm no expert on road classification rules and regulations, so if you really want to try and weasel out of it then you could look into the legal basis for the creation of the bus lane (presumably with the local council).

Is it not possible to filter up the outside of the traffic? Otherwise it's queue or different way, I guess.
