Can I just ask why it is that us low-capacity motorcyclists gain an unwanted stigma of arrogance and are on the recieving end of 9/10 jokes inside the motorcycling community?
I understand that some of us are impatient in our quest for speed in our younger years, but with the 33bhp restriction upon recent test-passers, You don't need a computer to realise that we CANNOT just pass our test and have the instant gratification of a large capacity motorcycle. What further frustrates us is when we ask for tuning advice and we get laughed at... Okay, some of us are misguided, but doesn't anyone remember the days when you were 16 and all you dreamt of was that moped of your friends? when you got one, I bet it wasn't fast enough, and I bet hardly any of you kept it to 30mph.
My hand now hurts as this took 10 minutes to type on a wii, so I apologise if this feels like a waste of time, But coming from the heart of an 18 year old who has obsession issues with Motorcycles big and small, Please, dont neglect the next generation =[

Get a bike rather than a ped, even if it's just a 125.

You can't 'just' pass your test but it's not that hard. If you get a 125 then once you've got some experience on that you should be able to pass the test with just a couple of lessons or without any lessons.

If you are using a ped on a CBT then you can definitely just jump on a 125. I use my 125 to go on trips hundreds / thousands of miles to other countries, they are that amazing. Better yet, get a 2 stroke 125, accidentally de-restrict it (much like people do with peds) and you've got yourself a 95MPH machine. No one's laughing at you now Smile

Edit: I see, good choices of bikes. What you're saying ultimately then is that we shouldn't laugh at 16 year olds who can't yet have a 125?

ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston?

Not 'Dont laugh', cause i know we make silly mistakes lol just try to accept that we're mostly the same as you lot, and the rest just need some guidance to keep them away from Saxo's lol

Another 2 negatives. Far from shit, knee downs on aerox and cz. I just cant afford it, I'm 18, trying to support my own household with my fiance barely making ends meet. Thats why

Think of it as an initiation into the biking world, working your way up the ranks as it were, passing your test and removing the L's is the right of passage.

Anyone put off by the gentle ribbing probably doesn't care that much about riding in the first place and for the rest of us it was just another incentive to pass our test.

I cant say I've noticed any arrogance since I lost the L's ( or any before for that matter ) and I regularly turn up places on a little 100.

I have to agree there, but at the same time, I just wish we gained a little more support, thats all =]

When does your CBT run out? It'll cost you more to redo your CBT than it will to do your test.

Stop spending money on lots of different sub 125cc bikes and put the money towards doing your test and buying a bigger bike.

If you stop and think about it for a sec you'll see plenty of support out there for learners. I lost count of the amount of times I'd stopped for a cig and another biker stopped to see if I was fine. And when have you ever known anyone who rides not be happy to talk for ages on the subject if you ask them a question.

Learners get supported but not the kid gloves treatment I find.
