Had my VFR running properly today, just wanted to run it enough to get the fan going and give it a bit of a test. The bike seemed to be running fine and had good acceleration upto around 90mph then the acceleration just seemed to stop and it took an age to get upto 100mph.
I spoke to another guy who owns a VFR and he said that the bike might be running on 3 cyclinders. How do I find out if this is the case? and what could be at fault (HT leads, Spark plugs, anything else). Confused

Somebody please help me! Crying or Very sad

listen to it. if it sounds smooth then all is well. if it seems to jump or stutter then it's not well. while it's idling put your head near the engine and listen for any sparking noises. if you hear then you may have lost one of the HT rubber seals.
otherwise wait for korn to reply-he's got the same engine.
oh yeah, found out earlier that my GPz550 chucks out 65hp :D

Milo, did you find this out by a dyno test or was this a bike test result??? If it was by dyno, how much did the power run cost please??
My dads got this pressure tester gizmo that screws in where the spark plugs go. U turn the engine over with plugs out and the gizmo in. It will give a reading of pressure. U then test all four cylinders and if one is lower than the rest then u know u have problems!!!

Sounds like your bike's a bit sick. A nonfiring cylinder would certainly explain it - run it for 10 minutes then shove your hand in to feel each of the exhaust manifolds in turn, if you manage to touch one and it's cold there's your problem. Also listen to the sound of the exhaust, if it's missing one cylinder then it's going to sound very rough and choppy.

Cheers for the replies guys.
Yeah Korn your suggestion seems to be the best! never thought of that doh!
If one is cooler than the other what is the likely problem?
Is it most lkely to be a dodgy spark plug, or HT lead. (I hope its nothing major)
God I hate having bike problems!!

Well I did as you suggested korn..... but all four exhaust manifolds were hot?? So I guess its not a non firing cylinder. The sound of the exhaust is not rough or choppy either (although it is blowing slightly through a small hole on the weld).

Anyone have any other ideas why it isnt performing at high speed??
And btw I have been told that it is not still restricted to 180 Kmh like the import ones were originally so its not that.
