Suzuki gt550 2 stroke

Hi folk's no often i post here but i have a suzuki gt550 i am not getting a spark at the points ect i have checked the kill switch and stuff that all seems to be fine i have also changed the battery for a nover one i have but i have noticed the coil's are heating up witch makes me think they have failed any idea's ?

Shorted points plate?

Sounds like it's not breaking ground somewhere.

Easy test would be to pop in a test plug, power up the system (don't try to start) and unplug the coil ground (break feed). A spark on unplug = dead short.

I once rebuilt a cb100n in 1985,It was perfect except the same problems you had.In the end it was down to a tiny insulating spacer in the points.unfortunatly I only found that out after smashing the newly sprayed tank with a hammer .One tank and a little patience later it was running.
