I have sold a vehicle on eBay, stupidly I did not set a reserve, the vehicle sold this afternoon for a whole let less than what it is worth. I know I am stupid for not setting a reserve and stupid for not ending the listing early. No money has changed hands yet. Is there anyway I get out of selling.
Advice needed!
Thank you

Well you could try contacting the seller and say...

Sold else where...

But be aware if you put it up on ebay again and they spot it you could end up in trouble....

The car that went bang earlier?

Sorry mate, missus pranged it in asda earlier, needs a wing and a door but if you still want it i'll knock a hundred quid off.

Bit of a gamble but likely they'll just tell you they don't want it.

Just tell them you're not going to let it go for silly money.

I know it's not right and against eBay rules but who cares about annoying a total stranger when there's money involved?

Relist it and set a reserve.

I like the 'its gone wrong' idea.
Pick something semi-serious so they wont be interested.

I love the way people are quick to help on here and slate the seller when they get a shitty seller on ebay and something goes wrong with the transaction/item.

But its all ok when its the other way round Rolling Eyes

Fair point, well made.

To the OP, it's sorta tough sh*t tbh. I'd have pulled the listing before it ended if I'd made that sort of f*ck up. I'd be bloody annoyed if I won an auction only to then be told I couldn't have it. If the seller told me it'd been crashed or damaged, and it wasn't a million miles away, I'd call his bluff and go take a look.

i agree with both the post above, its your own fault you didnt put a reserve, you shoulv noticed before it ended what you had done.
The "right" thing to do would be lump it and take the hit, bit i suppose thats up to you.

There is also the matter of what it is worth. Ebay is a very accurate way of getting the true market value for what you are selling, unless you wrote a really shit description or made it look like a heap in the pictures.

Vehicles are often worth a lot less than the owner thinks.

It's worth what it sold for.

That said, you can pretty easily choose to ream the buyer by just refusing any contact. They can't actually make you hand over the keys, and they're not realistically going to sue you over it.

But why not offer it to them for what you think it's worth, see if they're still interested?

If you're, genuinely, out of pocket by 1000's I might consider not selling it. If, on the other hand, we're talking 100's, you'll just have to suck it up and put it down to experience.

If it's a significant amount, you can always close your ebay account providing it is no great loss to you.

The buyer will get an email saying the seller has closed their account.

+1

If you didn't put a reserve on it, its your own fault. Deal with it.

Indeed...

The smart move would've been to get a mate to put a bid on early doors, so acting as a 'reserve'...

Not that I'd ever do that of course... (he says with an immaculate GSXR750M still sat in his garage after the only bid he got was from his mate 'Dangerous Dave').

Its a risk but that's the joy of t'bay!

We started trading outside of our little Warped-style hick villages, and with the threat of throat-punching removed, it's every scammer for himself.

This one time, at the building yard, the stock monkeys loaded 13 bags of sand instead of 12 on the order. Next time I was in, I insisted on paying for the extra bag. They were almost incapable of comprehending my ethos that you pay your way, and don't treat someone else's loss as your gain.

I listed a rather nice guitar and case which was worth about £1500 quid, I was a novice on ebay and didnt set a reserve and it sold for £200,

I swore a lot and felt dreadfully teed off that I had cocked up but I let the buyer have his "bargain" his feedback was excellent.

I have never sold anything on ebay since Laughing

This.

I'm of the belief that, if you don't complain when you're over paid, you can't complain when you're short changed. Karma, and all that.

The trouble is, until there's an exchange of goods for cash there is no deal.

If someone wins an auction but the seller ducks out of the deal no-one has lost anything other than time.

There's no way I'd stitch myself out of a load of cash for the sae of a bit of feedback on eBay.

I agree with the sand example, but it doesn't compare to an eBay auction.

Tell them you found a engine fault and your not selling it because it wasnt as described and would be unfair. If they ask to see it tell them its at a garrage getting repaired.

Stick up a link to the auction and we can give a better opinion on whether you are justified in pulling it.

I won a mint Peugeot 306 XSi from Ebay for the bargain sum of £200, the seller who was obviously in a simular predicament sent me an email stating that the car had developed a huge oil leak overnight and he couldn't sell it due to having no oil in the engine.......Pity it was a 4 hour drive to pick it up otherwise I would have been straight up there, as it turned out I just had to think to myself WHAT A WANKE*.

I always start my listings at 99p as it gets more interest but you have to watch them just in case they need to be pulled. If you made a f*ck up and didn't then thats your fault and you should be man enough to sell the car at what it sold for and not hide behind the computer screen.
