Now, 3 times i've posted something from my local post office in the past year, and they've went 'missing'

This is only the odd few things i send through them, and i've never had a problem sending through anyone else.

So my secret santa gift i sent to someone on here didn't arrive
The alarm i sent to Louise after someone had a pop at her bike didn't arrive
And now, i've sent through a Haynes manual for someone on here, and apparently that hasn't arrived either.

What can i do about this?

Only way round it to post them recorded?

Since i posted them first class, i take it i've got no grounds to claim for anything, as they didn't give me any receipts or anything?

Cheers

Dunc

You have to use signed for when sending anything by Royal Fail. But if you dont want to pay for that, at least ask for proof of postage. At least with proof of postage, you'll get 12 first class stamps as compensation when your parcel does go missing!

Signed For is useless, if it goes missing then you're screwed. Special Delivery is great though.

AFAIK you can claim back around £30 though for lost parcels even if they're sent unrecorded.

There's really no reason not to send everything via recorded delivery, it's not too much more than the non-recorded post and it guarantees delivery or your money back effectively. Anything worth more than £30 - send via special, more expensive but again, covered it if goes missing.

Recorded delivery is a waste of money, it goes through the same procedure as ordinary mail, round my way the postmen often just chuck rd items over my 6ft gate or leave them on the step. Complaining to rm is impossible.

Thieving is rife cos of the dodgy agency staff they employ, I've had at least three driving licences and two tax discs disappear in the post.

Anything valuable I need to send less than 50 miles I take on the bike myself.

If you get proof of postage you can claim compensation up to the value of 100 stamps for the item and 6 for the postage. This is the same for everything, except standard parcels, which you can pay a pretty modest extra amount to insure higher.

You obviously have the paypal problem with no proof of delivery - i.e. even if it gets there theres nothing stopping the buyer claiming a refund.

Recorded Delivery goes through the mail system the same route as regular mail, at no point is it tracked or traced, until it lands on the frame of the postie who is delivering it.

They then tell the person who issues them there specials, how many recordeds they have, then - depending upon the delivery office, if it is not delivered, it is either returned to the locker with the specials (usuallly this), or the front office, or their frame.

This means that, the postie has to first notice the recorded sticker, and secondly give a stuff about it. You might for example, get someone who thinks - oh sod it, one recorded? And chose to ignore it, because they have no specials etc

rubbish system all round recordeds are in my opinion, better off getting a certificate of postage instead.

How crap you have to pay them extra to do their job right in the first place.
I gt things recorded delivery all the time to me and never have been asked to sign for it it goes in where all the post goes where I live any on could lift it and I could claim I never got it. Apparently when I asked its not a garentee to delivery when you pay extra for sign for.I paid for next day before lunch time once and no one got that either and they said someone signed for it but couldnt make out who it was.
