Questions about what is allowed on m2

I failed my M2 test again a few days ago. I failed on stuff I had been told about I jumped a light turning from amber to red and shoulder checks on the roundabouts- fair enough, but during the test I had to do about 5 'stop and goes', plus 3 independent riding stages. I found it much harder then my lessons. Is this typical of the module 2 test? The test was early in the morning and I hardly had to stop for anything so I can only assume the examiner was checking I had control over the gears/clutch with all the stop and goes because there was no traffic about? Can the examiner basically do anything they want on the test?

I did (IIRC) 4 stop & goes. They put them in different situations to test your observations, you've also got hill starting etc in there.

Although how you had time for 3 independent riding bits (which take about 10 minutes) and 5 stop & goes I don't know. Are you sure they were actually independent riding and not just going in a straight line?

I had one ride to the town centre from here.

When I got to the town centre take the sign posts for this town.

Then later take the sign posts for this road and town.

I was expecting just one independent riding section. I count this as three but maybe I'm wrong.

As I wasn't a local of the town I just about got by but got shouted at by the examiner when I nearly took a wrong turn.

Funny that you should ask that - I passed at the third attempt only last week and was a bit surprised how many stop and goes I had ! I'm also sure I didn't go on the intended route on the free ride section but it all turned out well in the end !

Unlike the car test, Module 2 seems to be judged a lot more on the ride as a whole. If theres something the examiner isn't sure about they'll look a little closer at it Wink

If he wasn't sure about your stopping and moving away, either in terms of your bike control or obs then its entirely possible he'd like to have a look at it in more detail. 3 would sound about right to me; five seems a little excessive though. Wink

Stop-go is fine, I'm not sure what happened with the independent riding. AFAIK, it shouldn't actually matter where you go, as long as you go safely. Being "shouted at" for nearly taking a wrong turn sounds peculiar. Either you misrecollect, or your examiner has a bad attitude. If you're sure that it's the latter, then get a complaint in to the test centre and the DSA.

i had about 3 stop and goes and the independant riding i had to first follow signs for the M1 and then follow the signs to blaby

Ah now I had three stop and goes too. I did wonder about it but as I passed wasn't really for long lol. I nearly took a wrong turn right at the start of the ind ride but examiner repeated the instuction. i remembered to look then cancel my indicator ( was going to take first left when he had actually said go to the end of the road and go left Embarassed

) and there was no mention in the debrief so all good. And I too took my test on unfamiliar roads, but I did Google maps the town beforehand.

1 Stop on the hill, 1 Stop behind a car and 1 stop for the independent bit, oh and 1 stop for the 'not pulling up on people's driveway' bit, plus another one for good measure. Sounds about right, that's what I got. Only one independent ride though.
