Okay, so I got my lil Tomos on the road and have been ragging it about merrily, ignoring the speedo thinking 'Surely I cant be doing 24mph, Feels like I'm doin 30 '
Fitted a cycle speedo and set up everything accurately. Indeed I am topping out at 25mph on the flat.
Retimed the engine spot on with the help of a 60 year old mechanic friend of mine, Checked compression and it does seem a little low at 102psi but surely that'd affect low end power more not top end?
She has a new plug, ultrasonic cleaned the carb and the metal mesh filter that comes with it. plug is reading spot on.
So thats fuel (Spot on), compression (Lacking slightly, but there) and ignition (Spot on)... Or is it?
Whipped plug out and earthed it, kicked it over... dull spark
This has now made me notice that every now and then I get a dull sounding quiet pop from the engine when at full whack but the thing is, she'll do 33mph downhill and doesnt sound like its misfiring majorly...
So my question to you guys... is what would you check/do next? ____________________ My bike? A YX140 powered one-off Monkey Bike, something a little different! |

Then to me, it seems low.
Have you checked the top end yet? Done the usual bit of 2 stroke down the bore thing yet?
Only thing I noticed with low compression was it was a bugger to start when it was warm, even more so when cold Was like 110psi too... so I'd want to check the top end personally.
Its an old baby too Shouldn't take a man of your caliber long to do |

Well I'm fitting a 70cc kit with a reedvalve conversion to aid the low end torque over the old straight piston port... should see me doing 40. I just need to ditch the encarwi carb and fit a Delly ____________________ My bike? A YX140 powered one-off Monkey Bike, something a little different! |

Thanks.
Well, tell you what... get on with the 70 conversion, worry about the revs when its all 70'd up The problem may piss off completely.
