If you don't go then they could put a warrant out for your arrest and you'll have plod knocking on your door to give you a taxi ride to court.

Then you'll have to answer to some seriously pissed off mags or worse your honour.

Just go, it's less hassle.

There are many ways, but I'm not going to tell you them.

Justice relies on witnesses stepping up and telling the truth. And by justice I mean fitting up villains and tossers, and helping decent chaps get off the hook. Get in there and do the right thing.

When I was knocked off my bike I had to attend court. I was really positively surprised that three other people had taken the time and effort to turn up and act as witnesses to support my case. One person had travelled quite some distance. When I thanked them for turning up I meant it.

Do the right thing and turn up.

I'm sure it's only pure coincidence that the letters "e", "r" and "tard" all appear in your username...

I was a witness, but couldn't attend because I was unable to walk, let alone sit around for hours. I had to get the doctor to fax a letter to the prosecutors office, otherwise plod would have been at the door.

When it was reconvened, I found out one of the other witnesses was self employed, and was losing a second day's wage because I was unable to make it.

You never know - it might not even get that far. The case against the twat who wrote my car off didn't go ahead - I think he made a deal with the prosecutors.

If I had done that then the last thing I would do is mention it to anyone. He's trying to intimidate you.

If it's a domestic, and if the broad has gone back to him, then contact the CPS prosecutor and say that you are unable to swear under penalty of perjury that Bloke Dunnit; your recollection is vague because [you were inebriated / it was dark / it was a while ago / insert other reason]. They'll just drop you from the witness list, the case will collapse, and the world will keep turning.

However, be sure. If there's even a remote chance of you helping a doormat escape out from under a thug's boot, then fit him up a treat be confident and clear in your accusation.

Have you mentioned this to the courts' Witness Care Unit?, they have ways of dealing with witness intimidation.
