Well, the plug's ok, airbox has no isues and once she runs, she starts first time on the kick without hesitation...

But getting it kicking over the very first time on any given day can take anything from 20 > 50 kicks..

2t oil is topped up full, tank full of petrol and no leaks or pipe cracks

Any ideas?

Oh, and carb was recently stripped, cleaned as new and had all it's internals swapped before correct setup.

If you've got an actual choke, try putting it on half way.
If you have a richener, I'd probably leave it off for the time being.

Trouble starting from cold. Could simply be that your float chamber is drying up over night, so in the mornings you're having to refill the float chamber in order to get any fuel to the engine. Happened to my bike a few times, but only if I left it for ages - like, days - so I doubt it.

How old is the petrol? Surprised

Petrol is fresh, brand new.

Plug is new also, few weeks old. In terms of miles, maybe 20-30miles at a push.

on first start, try two kicks choke off ignition off then ignition on choke on.

could be your choke is faulty or incorrectly assembled.

as far the engine goes it could be worn rings/bore or possibly a crank seal has gone.

Choke? that hasn't been working per se for,.. around 8 months. But this has nbever affected the running of the bike, I know some will bleat on about it now but meh, it's always been fine.

Not the rings or the bore, freshly run in since a rebuild about a year and a half ago.

Is it any better if you remove the fuel cap ?

have you changed the HT lead recently ?

I'd take out the plug and check it for a decent spark before doing anything else - poor spark and its the electrics rather than fuel. Easiest done by holding it (by the ht cap, not the plug itself) against a metal part of the bike and turning it over). If you have a poor spark I'd swap a cap, ht lead & coil in that order to see if it sorts it by a process of elimination.

Of course, I don't have a clue what bike you are talking about here...

I was going to suggest maybe overfilling, but you mentioned 2T oil. Embarassed
Faulty fuel-tap/vacuum pump not working properly under kickover?

So whatever was wrong with the carb that richened the idle mixture allowing it to start from cold without choke has been fixed of cleared itself and now it wont start?

Me and my dad adjust it 'season dependant', there's not wnter nip in the air yet so it's setup as summer use, in winter it's the same just takes a little longer,

..can't actually think the last time I didn't have this problem, just that i'm tired of it and want it normal. Smile
