I have a MOT coming up and my tread is quite worn. I know a new tire is the option but i don't have the money for two weeks for a new one but the MOT need's to be done by Saturday. I hoping its just legal. But I'm not sure on the depth of tread i need?

If any one can help Wink Thumbs Up

Think it's 1.6mm over 3 quarters of the 'breadth' of the tyre. Is it past it's wear markers?

Hi

1.6mm for cars and 1mm for bikes. Except mopeds where I think it just has to be visible tread.

All the best

Keith

Hi

Bit to watch out for is either side of the centre line on the front. That often seems to be the bits that wears rapidly.

All the best

The grooves of the tread pattern must have a depth of a least 1 mm throughout a continuous band measuring at least three-quarters of the breadth of the tread and round the entire outer circumference of the tyre, OR
if the grooves of the original tread pattern of the tyre do not extend beyond three-quarters of the breadth of the tread (i.e. common with motorcycle tyres) any groove of the original pattern must have a minimum depth of at least 1 mm.

Slight correction to this. It applies to bikes under 50cc rather than just mopeds. So a full power 50cc bike can get away with just clearly visible tread.

All the best
