I've got a trackday at Cadwell coming up in the next couple of weeks. The forecast so far is for the temperature to be around 14 degrees Celsius and lower - and possible wind and rain.

Obviously, if it's raining then things will be completely different and I'll pootle around trying to be smooth as possible.

However, what can I expect in terms of grip levels etc in the dry?

I've only done one trackday before (on a Bandit) and it was in March 2010 in bright sunshine with temps getting up quite high for that time of year. (I had a jumper on under my leathers and was roasting).

This time could be overcast, windy and cold. On a Blade running Pirelli Diablos and rock-hard setup - could I do anything to improve my chances of staying upright?

Question

Grip is a little down. However you've got a more suitable bike, so in the dry you'll probably overall be better off anyway. Give a bit more time to warm your tyres up as they're starting from a colder point.

In the wet; yes be very smooth and remember (as I've found out); just because you can brake flat out for the first ten laps doesn't mean you're not right at the tyre's limit when you're doing that so on the eleventh lap when you're feeling all proud of going past everyone else something will be very slightly different and you'll end up having a little lie down at 60mph.

anything at or below 10 degrees and you'll definately feel the cold kris especially in the hands so take winter gloves in case and for wet riding I now come off 2 full turns of preload on the front to help the spring move at a slower pace as this I found gives more feel, especially if you have wets.
