Well, having realised the gearbox is fucked on the TL, I set off to Reading on G's R6. Overtaking on the M4 in the fast lane, twist throttle to accelerate, nothing.
Freewheeled to the hard shoulder. Oh fuck. Chain was snapped.
Didn't damage the bike which was quite good. Didn't lock the wheel either which was damn lucky from about 110-120ish.
I'm off to sit in the corner and not touch and not touch anything mechanical. |

Hi,
Oh dear Ste, your not having much luck with bikes are you. Maybe you should get a phat looking car instead
Joking aside, I'm glad to hear that you and the bike are ok. I've heard that it can turn nasty when a chain snaps, as in locking up the rear wheel
Cheers,
Will |

Yeah the chain can fly forwards and bunch up near the front sprocket, if the bottom bit of the chain is still hanging on to the back sprocket it will lock up. Will often smash the gearbox casing too. But lucky there was no damage Ste ____________________ Current bike: VTR1000F Firestorm. Previous: Firestorm (written off) - XJ600 Divvy - NSR125 - DT125 and a load of offroaders. |

The chain broke on the split link, but it was the side plate which split, the same as the plates on all the other links.

Glad to here your okay, bad luck though, that chain doesn't look in too bad nick either, cant see why it would break , weren't too tight or anything was it? ____________________ Chase my Witch up, Catch my Snitch up.

Very lucky, things could have been a whole lot worse, thank christ nothing more drastic happened.
Looking at those pictures of which are not too clear I would be looking into the possibility of some form of stress being put on the plate during assembly. ie the plate being bent in the middle a shade while being pushed onto the link pins??
Just glad to hear all was kept the right way up. |
