A dealer should surely have their own insurance; its something like a £1000 excess though. Do you not have TPO on other bikes in your insurance policy? On mine its with the owners permission on a bike I am entitled to ride on my license.

Buy a yearly policy, then cancel after a day for your refund of most of the premium.

NB: READ THE SMALL PRINT TO CHECK HOW MUCH THIS WILL COST YOU. AND SHOP AROUND. (Capitals because of how vital this is because some insurance companies are total thieves when it comes down to cancellation within the 14 day cooling off period).

If you are under 21 you cannot have had a full license for two years as the restricted licence isn't classed as a 'Full' licence by almost every dealer I've ever been to as you cannot ride any bike, a full licence is a full unrestricted licence as far as they are concerned, unsure of the legal standpoint here.

As for temporary insurance, as an under 21 you won't get it I imagine and almost every dealership I've been to won't even let you test ride one for the reason above.

Best bet if you MUST do it is to either:

A) As above, buy a years and then cancel it next day for a full refund.
B) Find a friend with one and ask if you can have a quick go around a private estate.

Best of luck!

But when you send off your licence (if you passed at 17 and send off at 19) your <25kW disappears and says when you passed.

Yes, but they know that you had to have been restricted for your first two years so they know you've only had a full licence since your restriction ended.

Been through it all as I really wanted to test ride a bike.

Maybe you should just find a dealer who isn't a cunt.

I tried that too! I went to six different dealers who stock the bike I wanted to test ride, all gave me the same answer.

Maybe I'm just too honest and should lie about it! Laughing!

Are you speaking from experience, and how recent is it? We've heard tell of A licenses coming back with the date of the restriction removal on them (i.e. 2 years after passing the A2 test), essentially knocking you back to having 0 years on it.

Anyway, you're on a sticky wicket with taking out your own insurance, since you're neither the owner nor the keeper of the bike that you're trying to insure, and you can hardly give an honest answer to the "where the vehicle kept overnight". You'll have to flim-flam them, and good luck on getting them to pay out if you bin it. The dealer isn't going to be unaware of this.

If dealers can't or won't help you out though, why are you paying them a premium?
